ABOUT FIRST RESOURCES CORPORATION IN OTTUMWA, IA

First Resources Corporation, located in Ottumwa, Iowa, offers outpatient treatment to youth and adults struggling with substance abuse. First Resources is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1987. The company operates ten other facilities throughout Iowa in addition to the Ottumwa location.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s treatment program follows the Stages of Change Model and the 12-Step Model using motivational interviewing techniques. To be admitted, clients must contact the facility directly by phone. Most clients remain in treatment for six to eight weeks.

Throughout treatment, clients receive individual and group therapy as well as educational interventions. Families are included in the treatment program through family support groups. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) involves four group sessions per week lasting two hours each and a weekly individual session lasting one hour. The Extended Outpatient Program is designed for clients who require less structure to maintain sobriety, but follows a similar structure as the IOP. Adolescent Extended Outpatient groups for those ages 12 to 17 are available.

First Resources Corporation also provides vocational and residential services to individuals with disabilities, and operates a separate facility called Hope House that provides residential treatment to pregnant women and women with children who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

REVIEWS

At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com. The reviewer seemed to have a mediocre experience overall and said she was not sure she would recommend it to others. The anonymous client gave the facility four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, three stars for accommodations and amenities, and four stars for meals and nutrition. She agreed that there are many counseling options to choose from, and that the facility is adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems. She felt that the counselors were a strength of the facility, but said she felt that the facility could improve upon the food.

On the facility’s Facebook page, which it can manage, there is an overall rating of 3.9 out of five stars based on eleven total reviews. [1] Most reviews are positive, but several alumni rated the organization poorly without leaving commentary. Most of the people who left reviews are staff members. D.D., who gave five stars, said she has worked at First Resources for thirteen years. She wrote, “For the most part at the end of the day I feel I’ve made a difference in someones daily living.” B.F., another staff member, agreed with that viewpoint. She gave five stars and wrote, “I really enjoyed working with all the clients the was like my family away from home. Would work there again if given the chance.”
