ABOUT THE ABBEY
Since 2008, The Abbey has provided substance abuse treatment through residential and outpatient care. The facility is located in Bettendorf, Iowa, and can provide specialized care for those with co-occurring disorders, such as depression, trauma, and anxiety. Medically supervised detox is not available.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment starts with a thorough assessment to determine the appropriate level of care through an individualized treatment plan. Those diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder, as defined by the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic & Statistical Manual, 5th edition (DSM-5).
Treatment consists of individual and group therapy, process groups, and 12-step programming. Gender-specific therapy is available, as appropriate. Treatment takes place in a 4 week cycle.
Additionally, evidence-based therapy is used. This includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma informed care. Holistic therapies such as yoga, meditation, music therapy, and art therapy are also offered.
The facility offers family programming, which includes weekly family programming and support groups. Clients can return to the facility as alumni for a quick session or re-admission into the program.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
According to the facility’s website, each clinical team member has more than 10 years of experience. The treatment includes therapists, social workers, master’s level counselors, physicians, and nurses.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility is located on an acre, surrounded by a privacy wall. Clients live in fully furnished double occupancy rooms with twin beds. Some private rooms are available. Each room has access to a private bathroom. There are shared courtyards, common rooms, and gardens.
Clients eat together in a communal cafe that’s open all day. It looks like a coffee shop and serves as a social space.

Sunday is family day, and programs for family members give them a real understanding of what addiction is, and how to support themselves and their addict or alcoholic. The staff is friendly, understanding and responsive; and the food provided is exceptional.”
FINANCING
According to the facility’s website, the facility accepts a wide range of health insurance options, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and United Healthcare. Finance plans are available for self pay clients.
