ABOUT GREENER PASTURES
Located near Portland, Maine, Greener Pastures is a residential recovery house for women who are over 21 and are struggling with addiction. Greener Pastures is one of only 27 (about 11 percent) of facilities operating in the state of Maine that provides some form of residential treatment. The center focuses on creating a holistic environment.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Greener Pastures’ website, its protocol is a 12-step alternative program that offers natural treatment options to repair, rebuild, and renew the body, mind, and spirit. Clients stay in treatment between 30 and 90 days, and all clients receive a minimum of 40 hours of treatment a week. The core of treatment is individual counseling, group therapy, and workshops.
Each client receives an individualized treatment plan, which typically includes occupational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic-based meditation, recreation therapy, recovery coaching, anger management, relapse prevention, living skills, and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR).
The center utilizes trauma-informed counseling and dual-diagnonsis support groups. Other services include yoga, experiential therapy, mind-body work, reiki, horticultural therapy, motivational interviewing, holistic life coaching, health and wellness coaching, art therapy, music therapy, poetry, journaling, and intensive writing workshops. The treatment center believes cannabis is a medical supplement and nutrient that can benefit the body, and that it’s not a barrier to or threat to sobriety.
When clients are finished with treatment, the center will help facilitate the next steps of their recovery such as finding a sober living home and inclusion into the alumni program.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
While there is currently not much information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, clients receive a whole-food diet. Clients aren’t allowed to bring musical instruments, electronic equipment, musical devices, smart washes, fans, food, radio, books, and cameras into the center. The few individuals who left negative reviews called the center a scam and unethical. Positive feedback mentioned the center is a wonderful place and called the staff wonderful. “A great person with tons of compassion and knowledge,” Charlie wrote in a representative review. “Her team will treat you right. Greener Pastures Holisticare is a good choice.”

The three people who left commentary praised the center, and noted they recommend the center. “They are true compassionate people. They are a godsend to Maine.
