ABOUT HARBOR OF GRACE ENHANCED RECOVERY CENTER- HAVRE DE GRACE, MD
Harbor of Grace Enhanced Recovery Center, located in Havre de Grace, Md., offers detox, residential, and outpatient- including intensive outpatient treatment to adults struggling with substance abuse and those with co-occurring mental illness. The facility is located at the mouth of the Susquehanna River on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Hartford County. The mission of Harbor of Grace is to provide affordable, compassionate, and comprehensive care to all clients they serve.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The Harbor of Grace treatment program follows evidenced-based methods for recovery and 12-Step programming. The facility offers a variety of treatment levels including residential, extended care residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and traditional outpatient care. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan upon admission and at that time, the appropriate level of care is determined.
When necessary, treatment may begin with medical detoxification. The facility is licensed to provide ambulatory detox with and without extended monitoring by the medical staff. Those experiencing complicated withdrawal may be referred to another detox setting with a higher level of care.
Residential treatment typically lasts for 28 days. Throughout treatment, clients receive group and individual counseling sessions, education on the disease process of addiction and relapse prevention, and innovative therapies such as art and music therapy or equine therapy. Clients also participate in daily Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings. There is also a specialized women’s track option with female-only therapists who help address gender-specific issues.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team includes a psychiatrist who is the Medical Director and specializes in Addiction Medicine, registered nurses experienced in psychiatric medicine, and drug and alcohol counselors who are also certified as Relapse Prevention Specialists.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility offers 20 beds with no more than two clients per suite and private bedrooms in a home-like setting. The residences are described as spacious and clean and designed to feel like a fine hotel. Each suite comes with a flat-screen TV, cable television, and high speed internet. There are granite counter-tops, writing desks, and entertainment centers with library-style shelves to help remind clients of home. Each suite comes with a washer and dryer. Tydings Park and Havre de Grace Promenade are a short two block walk away.
All meals are included in the cost of treatment. Breakfast and lunch is typically served at the residences. Harbor staff will do all grocery shopping and keep the residences stocked with fresh foods as well as accommodate special dietary needs and requests when possible. Many evenings, a residential manager transports the group to a local restaurants to enjoy dinner out and have a change of pace for the day.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com. The anonymous alum gave the facility a positive review of the facility including four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations & amenities, and meals & nutrition. He agreed that the facility was clean and well maintained; that there were many counseling options to choose from depending on the client’s preference; and that the facility staff were experienced, well trained, and adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems in addition to substance use disorders.
The alum felt that a strength of the facility was the quality of service provided but felt that the facility could improve upon the high cost of treatment. Overall, she agreed that she would recommend this facility to a friend or loved one who was considering rehab.
On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of 3.8 out of five stars based on four total reviews. The reviews of the facility were mixed. One alum, D.H., who gave two stars, felt that the program was disorganized and even went on to recommend another local treatment center instead of Harbor of Grace. He wrote, “Immature program compared to other treatment centers. Everything is scattered around Havre de Grace.” L.B., another alum, did not agree with that viewpoint. She gave four stars and wrote, “The staff at Harbor of Grace were caring and professional. I felt like a respected human being for the first time in a while there. I learned a lot from the lectures and speakers and had an amazing counselor.” She went on to write that the only reason she did not give five stars was because before she left, the facility was installing a new security alarm that was disruptive; otherwise, she highly recommended the facility.
FINANCING
The cost of treatment at the facility is not published. Harbor of Grace accepts all major private insurances but are out of network with the plans most of the time. The facility staff will process the claims on behalf of clients.
