At Hope House, individuals struggling with addiction receive compassionate and confidential care tailored to their individual needs and situation. For those in need of withdrawal assistance, Hope House offers detoxification services in a non-hospital setting. For those seeking short-term residential treatment, Hope House provides an intensive two to four week inpatient program that includes medical stabilization, psychiatric evaluation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and medication as needed. Hope House also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for individuals requiring outpatient services.
ABOUT HOPE HOUSE LAUREL
The Hope House in Laurel, Md., formerly known as Reality House, offers treatment for men and women struggling with alcohol and substance abuse. They provide both a residential program and an intensive outpatient (IOP) program, as well as inpatient detoxification services and dual diagnosis treatment. An alumni program and discharge planning are available for clients leaving the program.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Clients who require medical support for the management of withdrawal symptoms upon admission have access to detoxification services. This process may last anywhere from 3 to 10 days. Services during detoxification include medical evaluation, toxicology screening, medical monitoring, chemical assistance, client education, group and individual counseling, and continuing care planning.
Hope House’s residential program begins with a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s needs, medical stabilization, and a psychiatric assessment (when necessary). Treatment lasts anywhere from 14 to 28 days and includes cognitive/behavioral counseling (both group and individual), introduction to 12-step self-help groups, relapse prevention counseling, and education about addiction and recovery. Other services include medication-assisted treatment, medical stabilization, psychiatric evaluation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and auricular acupuncture.
Medical and nursing care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In their IOP, clients take part in evening sessions that utilize the traditional 12-step approach as well as other clinical treatment methods.
Family education and support is provided to help family members understand and assist loved ones in their recovery. Hope House collaborates with local church groups, civic associates, businesses, and individuals to provide alumni with healthy recreational activities to pursue after graduation. There is also alumni support to help graduates transition into a life of sobriety. DUI educational courses are also offered.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The staff at Hope House consists of experienced professionals, including nurses and physicians trained in treating addiction, master’s level and licensed counselors, and an addictions counselor. Hope House also has volunteers who lead 12-step groups and assist with clerical duties, meal preparation, recreational opportunities, and facility maintenance.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Pictures on Hope House’s website depict shared rooms, a well-furnished lobby, games room, and outdoor garden. Historic Downtown Annapolis and Baltimore’s Inner Harbor are short car rides away. Transportation can be arranged. Visitation hours are Saturdays 1-3 p.m.

Of eight alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, seven had positive reactions to Hope House in Laurel, rating it four or five out of five stars in nearly every category. Cleanliness, family participation, safety and comfort, and affordability received the highest average ratings at 4.6 stars.
In comments, alumni wrote that the staff, though too few in number, was compassionate and dedicated. An anonymous alum wrote: “they always make you feel love and not alone.they come and check on you when you dont come out your room.”
One alum posted a negative review and rated the facility only one star. Alum Brian wrote: “Friendly staff, good intentions, not as much on delivery. Food, was worse than jail food.”

Loved ones complained about unclean accommodations, a lack of activities, and a rushed discharge policy. Loved one A.M. wrote: “My son was discharged after a week b/c of Insurance problems, which I was not made aware of. Now, because he was not ready to be out, I am fighting day and night with him over temptations and coming home to poisonous environments.”
