ABOUT KALAMAZOO COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES
For more than 30 years, Kalamazoo Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (KCMHSAS) have been offering a wide variety of outpatient programs to help those struggling with addiction, behavioral health problems, and co-occurring disorders. The facility works with numerous community resource agencies to connect clients with health care providers, mental health and substance abuse services, and housing services, as well as provide medically monitored detox.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
All clients receive a comprehensive screening at the facility’s Access Center to determine what services will be most beneficial. Assessments may include psychological, psychiatric, developmental, and/or neuropsychological screenings.
Core services available for substance abuse and mental health care include individual and group counseling, peer support groups, case management, psychiatric care, medication management, and family support, which includes education and support for loved ones.
The KCMHSAS Housing Recovery Center (HRC) also helps clients find safe, affordable, and sober housing, if needed.

The facility’s provider network includes doctors, mental health workers, and substance abuse specialists.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The sole alum surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave KCMHSAS a positive review, awarding the facility four and five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its holistic offerings, its cleanliness, its counseling options, and its staff’s level of training and experience. “Friendly. Able to help anytime. On time appointments and nice staff,” they wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Though Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from loved ones of staff members, a few employees took to secondary websites to give an opinion. To date, five ratings on Indeed average 3.8 out of five stars. One anonymous reviewer noted, “Co-workers were very friendly and supportive of each other,” while another wrote: “Supervision and management too frequently ignore nonproductive staff.”
Also at the time of this writing, there were two reviews on Glassdoor, one for two out of five stars and the other for three stars. One complained about getting benefits cut while the other praised this aspect but also noted that “Depending on what you do, they are not always the most sophisticated place.”
FINANCING
The facility accepts Medicaid as well as private insurance. Out-of-pocket costs depend on services used and available coverage. No one is denied services for an inability to pay.
