ABOUT MUNSON ALCOHOL AND DRUG TREATMENT CENTER
Located in Traverse City, Mich., Munson Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center is part of Munson Healthcare’s network of nine hospitals. The center, which operates under the organization’s behavioral health division, provides a variety of services for individuals struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment options for substance abuse include outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment with housing or residential care. The treatment center has specialized tracks for women and medical professionals. There is also outpatient programming available for adolescents, and patients dealing with problem gambling may access counseling.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, once assessed by a member of Munson’s clinical team, clients may begin treatment. Treatment options include outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, or intensive outpatient treatment with housing, which operated much like a residential rehab.
Clients who choose to live on-site while receiving treatment typically do so for up to 14 days. During this time, they participate in a highly structured program that is founded in 12-step principles. Programming typically includes individual counseling, group therapy, and family counseling. Educational groups focus on topics including relapse prevention, relationships, overall health and wellness, and spirituality.
Intensive outpatient care is similar in design, but participants attend three, three-hour evening sessions each week in addition to weekly individual and family sessions. Outpatient treatment for adolescents is highly individualized and includes a strong family component. All clients, regardless of their treatment program, receive a personalized aftercare plan.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s website indicates the multidisciplinary treatment team includes a medical director, nurse practitioner, on-site psychiatrist, social workers, certified addiction counselors, family therapists, and recreational staff.

Residents share dorm-like bedrooms with another patient and eat their meals in a communal dining hall. Amenities include a game room, a small fitness facility, and an outdoor patio.
