ABOUT THE SALVATION ARMY DETROIT HARBOR LIGHT AT ACRES OF HOPE
Part of the faith-based charitable organization The Salvation Army, Detroit Harbor Light’s Acres of Hope offers residential and outpatient treatment to adult men and women struggling with substance abuse issues. Medical detox is not available on site, but is offered at some of Salvation Army’s nearby facilities. Serving the Detroit area for over 70 years, Acres of Hope also offers outpatient-based programs and residential aftercare for pregnant women and mothers of young children.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To identify the severity of present problems and determine if Acres of Hope is an appropriate program, clients participate in an initial assessment. If necessary, clients will spend three to five days undergoing detoxification at a nearby facility before beginning the residential program.
Residential Treatment programs last up to 90 days, and include: individual, group, and didactic counseling on topics such as education, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavior changes needed for successful recovery.
Following successful graduation from the residential program, patients are placed in an outpatient program that involves individual counseling sessions once a week, and may also include some group therapy.
While the women’s Evangeline Program for Women and Children is outpatient based, Acres of Hope does provide optional domiciliary care, and young children may reside with mothers enrolled in the program. During treatment, clients participate in a daily schedule of individual, group, and didactic counseling.

Needs more healthy food. A good place to learn the tools for sobriety,” one anonymous alum wrote. Providing a five-star rating for individual counseling and staff support, alum R.D.H. wrote: “You can’t make anyone accept the wonderful gift of sobriety. It has to be wanted.”
