ABOUT ZUMBRO VALLEY HEALTH CENTER – CHEMICAL HEALTH SERVICES
Zumbro Valley Health Center in Rochester, Minn. is an outpatient mental health clinic that has been providing services in southeast Minnesota for more than 50 years. In addition to its psychiatric and primary health care, the organization runs short and long-term substance abuse treatment programs for adults and teens as well as specialized programs for the homeless and those with traumatic brain injury and developmental disabilities, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Drug and hair testing, monitored sobriety, and 24-hour detoxification are also available for residents of 12 counties in Minnesota.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon intake into the 22-bed Connections & Referral (detoxification) unit, clients receive medical services, addiction counseling, and education on relapse prevention. After this initial stage, they’re often recommended for one of Zumbro Valley’s five different outpatient recovery programs for substance abuse. There’s also an intervention program with monthly classes for those concerned about their substance use habits but don’t require detox.
All treatment programs are based on the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s Six Dimensions of substance abuse treatment. Staff and clients work together to develop an individualized treatment based on evidence-based practices and solutions.
At the most introductory level of care, Recovery Basics is a traditional substance abuse program that focuses on the physical effect of chemicals, the development of new thinking patterns and a support network, and long-term sober living skills.
For those with dual diagnoses, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) titled Recovery Partners offers crisis planning and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The goal is to help adults improve their problem solving and social skills and provide men and women with opportunity to tackle life issues specific to each of them.
A more-long term option, the Right to Recovery program is specifically designed for those who’ve had prior treatment experience. The 12-month long program makes use of educational presentations, holds five groups a week, and includes individual counseling and recreational activities.
Finally, the Footsteps 4 Recovery program helps those who are both homeless and have a chronic substance abuse disorder through outreach, referrals, assistance in locating housing, vocational training, and more.
