ABOUT DAMON HOUSE INC.- RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM
Damon House is a city-subsidized nonprofit based in central New Brunswick, which offers outpatient and residential treatment for men and women aged 18+ whose addiction has led to financial hardship. Co-occurring disorders including anxiety and depression can be treated at this facility, and the center often treats indigent individuals.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatments begins with a urine screen, and medical and psychiatric evaluations are carried out within a week of admission.
Damon House is built around the philosophy that every man and woman has the power to succeed. The facility provides scant information about its treatment services, though it hosts 12-step meetings, indicating that the program at least incorporates and might be based on the 12-Steps. In addition, the facility’s website notes that treatment is multidisciplinary. An alum polled by Best-rehabs.com indicated that treatment was not based on faith, and that the program was very bare bones, with minimal extracurricular and holistic offerings and counseling options.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Staff includes a psychiatrist, a physician, a nurse, a family therapist, licensed addiction counselors, case managers, and a nutritionist. The single alum polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it just one out of five stars.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The residential facility offers 64 beds, and the program includes fitness sessions. Except for a single call to request any necessary items, residents may not contact their loved ones for the first 14 days of treatment. The single alum polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on Damon House’s performance in a variety of treatment metrics gave the facility three stars for its meals and nutrition and one star for its accommodations, cleanliness, and exercise and leisure offerings.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
All three of the alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave negative feedback, noting that the program did not help them and that in some cases it hindered them. “I have been damaged by the experience,” B.S. told Best-rehabs.com, and an anonymous reviewer added: “Do not go here… I am one of two people still clean out of 280 clients The only reason I made it was my previous 12 step exposure.” The single alum polled on Damon House’s offerings in a variety of treatment metrics gave the center one out of five stars in almost all of the 15 evaluated treatment metrics, including its treatment effectiveness, family participation, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders.
Secondary sites yielded mixed coverage at the time of this writing: a 4.6-star average rating based on 10 reviews on Facebook, where the center can manage its own page, and two one-star ratings on CiteHealth. The positive reviewers repeatedly credited Damon House with their sobriety, and described treatment as life-saving: “Damon House changed my whole outlook on life… Ive been clean for about 2 yrs,” K.J. wrote in a representative review on Facebook. However, the negative reviewers echoed the alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com in describing their stay Damon House as an unpleasant experience that worsened instead of ameliorating their problems. “If you wanna change you can. this place is legit hell… some of the staff are terrible and shouldnt be working there. however idk i still managed to learn some stuff there and not want to get high anymore,” A.A. wrote in a representative review on Facebook.
FINANCING
Damon House offers a sliding fee scale, and pledges never to turn anyone away because they’re unable to pay for treatment. The single alum polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the center one out of five stars for its affordability.
