ABOUT NEW YORK-PRESBYTERIAN/WEILL CORNELL MEDICAL CENTER- WESTCHESTER DIVISION- WHIT PLANS, NY

NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division, located in White Plains, New York, offers inpatient and outpatient treatment to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with mental health, behavioral disorders, and dual diagnosis. The facility operates as one of three NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center locations; the other two are located in Manhattan.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To be admitted, clients may contact the facility by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Immediate admissions are available in emergency situations, and the admissions process begins with a two to four hour assessment. The results of the assessment will direct what treatment program the client is admitted to: inpatient, partial hospitalization, day hospital, community residence, or outpatient clinic.

The facility’s program uses evidence-based treatments and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat a wide range of mood, psychotic, personality, eating, and geriatric psychiatry disorders. Throughout treatment, clients receive individual and group therapy, medication management, and psychosocial rehabilitation. Participants may receive medication prescribed by a doctor or nurse practitioner throughout their stay as necessary.

Families are included in the treatment program through family therapy, parent support groups, and family consultations. NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division also offers unique treatments and therapy including a therapy dog program, meditation, aromatherapy, and yoga.

NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Division has 270 beds for varying levels of psychiatric care. Each unit of the facility has a comfortable dining room where clients eat together and snacks available throughout the day.

The facility’s deluxe inpatient unit, The Haven at Westchester, offers a secure, hotel-like setting with private rooms and concierge services for adults 18 and older. Residents of The Haven are offered daily menu choices featuring meals prepared by a gourmet chef. Each client also has a personal phone, computer access, and in-room television.

The anonymous clients gave the facility four and five out of five stars for affordability, and four stars for cleanliness. All three alumni agreed that the facility is adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems. One alum wrote, “I highly recommend this facility. They work with their patients and ensure that no one slips through the cracks.”

When asked about weaknesses of the facility, alumni cited the numerous rules and restrictions they thought were excessive. Some staff members also recieved criticism: with accusations that they “don’t listen to the patient.”

One loved one wrote, “My wife’s niece was treated there and is in recovery now for five years or better, they were wonderful .”

FINANCING

  • Enough nurses, nice quarters. I had more than one experience with this facility and although there quarters are decent and amenities are decent too, the staff and therapist don't listen to you very well. they could be a little more lenient in terms of having some of your own stuff there and being allowed in the dining room more, as well as having more therapeutic outlets.
