ABOUT FLACRA ADDICTIONS CRISIS CENTER
Founded in 1973, Finger Lakes Addictions Counseling and Referral Agency (FLACRA) is a private, nonprofit agency that provides a range of treatment services for adults and teens struggling with substance abuse.
Located in Clifton Springs, about 30 miles east of Rochester, N.Y., the agency’s Addictions Crisis Center (ACC) offers medically supervised detoxification and stabilization. Once discharged, clients may be referred to one of FLACRA’s outpatient programs and/or supportive living apartments.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon intake, clients are evaluated to determine an appropriate level of care. Those who are admitted into the ACC typically stay here for a brief, safe period of withdrawal before being referred for residential services or transitional housing. Clients receive a strength-based, individual plan, according to the facility’s website, but further details on treatment are not given.
Also at the Clifton Springs location, the Maxwell Hall provides group counseling, daily living activities, and vocational services. Family involvement is highly encouraged at the community residence. After treatment, clients may transition into supportive living, a stepping stone towards independent living for which FLACRA has 42 apartments throughout the Finger Lakes Region. Housing services for veterans are also available in the region.
Program graduates can join Friends of FLACRA, a program run by the nonprofit’s Alumni Association. Meetings provide ongoing encouragement, positive activities, and peer support but individuals suspect of being under the influence may be suspended from the program. Alumni participate in fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and other community events.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
FLACRA employs a staff of more than 250 program supervisors, substance abuse counselors, registered nurses, vocational and therapy aides, and administrative efforts.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Details on the facility’s living arrangements are limited. Residents of the 22-bed program are housed in a large brick building in a residential neighborhood near parks, churches, and a hospital. The back of the property is cupped by dense trees with some walking paths and benches for relaxation.
The five Best-rehabs.com survey respondents polled on the matter gave FLACRA an average rating of 3.4 stars out of five for its accommodations and amenities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date reported polarized feedback regarding the effectiveness and the quality of the program. “This facility helped change my life and helped get me on the right track,” one told Best-rehabs.com. “They have enormous support systems.” However, this same reviewer felt that there were not enough staff members to support clientele. Also citing a lack of staff support as well as ineffective counseling, alum D.D. simply described FLACRA as an “overall, poor facility.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
In general, survey responses from four loved ones showed they mostly approved of the facility, citing good staff support and affordable treatment, though some disagreed on the availability of holistic offerings. “If you are looking for help…you can get it here…if you have no money you can still stay here,” loved one Brenda told Best-rehabs.com.
A friend of a former client gave an overall rating of only three stars but also recommended the facility and wrote: “i just like that he was able to get away for a while and focus on himself.”
FINANCING
FLACRA offers affordable treatment that is covered by Medicaid and most major health insurance plans. The nonprofit’s webpage maintains that “No client will be denied service because of inability to pay.”
