ABOUT STEUBEN COUNTY ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES
Located in south central N.Y., Steuben County Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services (SCASAS) provides outpatient-based programs and services for adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency. Operating three facilities in the communities of Bath, Hornell, and Corning, SCASAS provides outpatient treatment programs, an educational program for individuals charged with Impaired Driving, and a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals recovering from opiate dependency.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To identify individual client needs, individuals first participate in an initial assessment before beginning treatment. If a client is struggling with opioid addiction, SCASAS may incorporate medication-assisted treatment into programming. However, MAT is only available to individuals who are also enrolled into an outpatient treatment program.
Although treatment is based on individual needs, SCASAS’ outpatient programs typically entail clinician-led individual and group counseling sessions that address the emotional and psychological contributors of addiction. Through these sessions, clients may learn new coping techniques, methods for trigger avoidance, and skills for regulating emotions.
The MAT program of SCASAS involves regular Suboxone dosages, a medication proven-effective in minimizing opiate cravings and alleviating the withdrawal symptoms commonly associated with opiate addiction. While receiving MAT, clients continue to attend individual and group counseling sessions.
As the client progresses through MAT, clinicians may regularly monitor and manage their Suboxone dosage, gradually decreasing the dosage until the client no longer requires the regimen to abstain from opiate use.
SCASAS is also certified by the State of N.Y. to complete evaluations and provide treatment for individuals charged with impaired driving. Along with driver’s license reinstatement assessments, the facility provides treatment for offenders that satisfies court requirements.
