ABOUT HOPE HAVEN, INC.
Founded in 1976, Hope Haven’s is a substance abuse treatment clinic dedicated to “breaking the cycle of homelessness and addiction forever.” The center, located in Charlotte, N.C., treats 300 men, women, and their children every year. Hope Haven is one of only 73 (18.3 percent) of centers in the state of North Carolina to primarily focus on residential programs and sober living facilities.
Described as “structured residential aftercare,” prospective clients must have completed a substance abuse treatment program within the past year, and be a resident of Mecklenburg County or a graduate of a substance abuse program offered by Cardinal Innovations.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, treatment includes the 12-Steps, and clients also participate in regular individual, group, and family counseling. Hope Haven also provides parenting and recovery workshops (where appropriate), vocational and educational sessions, and job training programs.
At the most intensive level, for those new to recovery, there are gender-specific programs lasting three to six months. In these programs, residents must complete a two-week orientation, attend a minimum of four self-help groups a week, attend counseling, complete vocational training if necessary, and, finally, find employment and pay resident fees, volunteer, or attend school.
There’s also an intensive program for families, in which married couples or single parents are placed in apartment units on campus with their children age 14 or younger.
Co-ed extended aftercare services are provided to those with at least six months of sobriety. In this facility, the minimum stay is nine months and the maximum, 18. Residents must be gainfully employed or studying full-time, and must continue to attend self-help meetings and participate in counseling.
An independent living program provides affordable, permanent housing for graduates of Hope Haven.
