Operating 33 facilities throughout North Carolina, Daymark Recovery Services, Inc. is a non-profit community provider of mental health and substance abuse treatment services for adults and children. Daymark provides crisis intervention, psychiatric services, and outpatient-based treatment programs for individuals struggling with mental health disorders, chemical dependency, and co-occurring issues. The Surry Center, located in Mount Airy near U.S. Route 52, offers outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, psychiatric services and intensive in-home services for children, as well as urgent care and mobile crisis management services.

Upon admission, clients first undergo a psychosocial assessment to help identify their needs and determine an appropriate level of care. The Surry Center offers specialized mental health outpatient treatment for both adults and children, as well as an intensive outpatient program to treat chemical dependency. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, the Surry Center does provide walk-in assessments and crisis interventions.

The intensive outpatient program involves a minimum of nine hours of weekly programming, or the equivalent of three sessions per week. At the Surry Center, this program is available only for adults suffering from substance abuse and/or mental illness. Treatment consists of individual and group counseling, life skills education, and relapse prevention training. Referrals are made for aftercare services and relevant community programs.

During outpatient treatment, clients participate in group counseling sessions and attend educational classes. Utilizing several evidence-based therapies including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), Seeking Safety, Matrix, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, the center facilitates one-on-one therapy and group counseling sessions (some of which focus on gender- and diagnosis-specific topics). The Surry Center also provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management for both adults and children to help minimize symptoms of mental health disorders.

In addition, the Surry Center provides intensive in-home services for children. Specialized to treat either substance abuse or mental health disorders, the in-home programs aim to provide first responder interventions to diffuse crises, foster use of community services and resources, and prevent the need for out-of-home treatment. The service is available 24/7.
