ABOUT WEDGE MEDICAL CENTER IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
Located in Philadelphia, Penn., Wedge Medical Center provides outpatient and intensive outpatient programs to people struggling with addiction. The center does offer medication assistance.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, Wedge Medical Center offers two levels of substance abuse care — intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient programs (OP). Patients in the IOP program have three group sessions a week along with one individual session. The OP program provides two group sessions a week along with an individual session once a month. Treatment is strongly centered around the 12 Steps.
The center also provides two medication-assisted treatment programs. The programs utilize Suboxone, Subutex, and Vivitrol to help people struggling with opiate addiction. The Opiate Treatment Program is an IOP program, and treatment includes group and individual counseling, case management, along with induction and maintenance of medication.
The other program, Temple-Wedge Opiate Treatment Program, is an IOP program, and treatment includes medication induction and management, obstetric (OB) services, and case management. The center collaborates with Temple University Hospital’s Obstetrics Department for this service.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Wedge Medical Center’s website states the treatment team includes staff psychiatrists, Master’s-level therapists, counselors, counselor assistants, and recovery specialists. Both reviewers polled by Best-rehabs.com rated staff’s level of experience and training a perfect five stars.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The one alum that was polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mostly positive review of Wedge Medical Center. They rated Wedge a perfect five stars in counseling options and four stars in exercise and leisure options, holistic treatment offerings, and family participation, although they rated the center only one star in affordability. They wrote: “I was very good help for me.”
On Wedge’s Facebook page, which the facility can manage, two reviewers to date rated the center one and five out of five stars, and on CiteHealth two reviewers to date rated the center four and three out of five stars.
Of the four, three alumni left negative feedback complaining of improper medical treatment. Alum Cindy wrote: “imho, they have little time for the seriousness of addiction. they are quick to prescribe many harmful meds!”

The loved one who was questioned by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided a positive review. They rated the center a perfect five stars in counseling options and four stars in affordability, family participation, and cleanliness but only two stars in exercise and leisure options and holistic treatment offerings. They wrote: “The facility is great, clean, friendly, and helpful.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
Employees on third-party sites had mixed experiences at Wedge Medical Center. On Indeed, 12 current and former employees to date rated the facility an average 2.8 out of five stars, while on GlassDoor seven employees rated the center an average three out of five stars.
Many staff members noted high stress and low pay as weaknesses of the center. However, most staff members mentioned other workers as a positive of the center. One former employee wrote: “The hardest part of the job was the size of the caseload. The most enjoyable part of the job was supporting clients in their recovery process.”
