Located in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, Western Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge is a faith-based center that offers short-term and long-term residential treatment to individuals struggling with addiction. Medical detoxification is also available at this facility.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, Western Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge’s long-term, faith-based program utilizes an adapted version of the 12-step program, which is combined with Bible study and community service. The program typically lasts between 11 and 14 months and consists of two phases.
In order to enter the long-term program, clients must complete the first phase of treatment, which involves either finishing a traditional faith-based Teen Challenge program or completing the short-term program.
The induction phase, which is known as “spiritual boot camp,” lasts between four and five months and is specifically designed for individuals in need of addiction help. This phase includes group studies and a personal students program.
The second phase, which lasts 10 months, takes place at the corporate headquarters located in Rehresburg, Pennsylvania. Treatment in this phase includes 12-step programs, Bible study, community service, and a G.E.D. program. The center also utilizes evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
The short-term residential addiction program focuses on individualized treatment and is clinically based. It incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy and integrated mental health services. The program takes a motivational, strength-based, and relationally focused approach. Services also include life-skill development, such as coping and social skills. Individuals in this program can expect daily group sessions as well as one to two individual counseling sessions per week. The program is holistic, addressing biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual needs. The typical length of stay in this program is 30 days.
