ABOUT THE COLONIAL HOUSE HEALTH NETWORK

A part of the CHI Healthcare Network, Colonial House Programs and services in York, Pa., offers residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults. Clients must be alcohol- and drug-free prior to admission. Detoxification services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Colonial House is 12-step based. The residential program lasts 90 days and includes individual counseling, group therapy, and relapse prevention, along with lectures, workshops, and life skills training on topics such as anger management, self-esteem, coping skills, stress management, and health and wellness.

Clients attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings daily and participate in a work therapy program, which consists of jobs that aid in the general upkeep of the facility.

A family education workshop is offered for loved ones, and family members are encouraged to participate in counseling with clients.

Outpatient offerings include a six-week intensive outpatient program (IOP) that meets three times a week, a 12-week relapse prevention track that meets once a week, and gender-specific men’s and women’s trauma groups that meet once a week for 24 weeks. Clients may also participate individual and/or couples/family counseling on an outpatient basis.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, the treatment team includes a certified alcohol and drug counselor and certified recovery specialists. Colonial House has a staff-to-client ratio of 8:1. The four alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date who evaluated the staff gave the facility an average rating of 4.25 out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 45-bed residential facility is set on two and a half acres of York countryside. According to the rehab’s website, the two-story building houses residents on the second floor in comfortable bedrooms with separate reading areas. The first floor offers recreation and dining areas, therapy rooms, and administrative offices. The five former clients polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Colonial House an average rating of three out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the five alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date, two gave Colonial House positive reviews, two gave the facility mixed reviews, and one gave the rehab a negative review. Positive feedback praised the facility’s solid treatment, quality of counseling, and adherence to the 12-step model; however, Andrew, the one negative reviewer, gave the facility just one out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness and complained that it was too much like a work release program.

Colonial House received one negative review on CiteHealth.[1] The anonymous reviewer gave the facility one out of five stars for its care, its staff, and its promptness, and two stars for its physical facility. “The main reason to avoid this facility is due to the lack of professional care,” the reviewer wrote. “This facility mostly accepts court ordered individuals and they are paid by the County/State. They have no accountability to the patient nor do they care about actual success.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Colonial House received mostly positive feedback from the four loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com to date. They gave the rehab an average rating of four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, and two of the respondents noted that the program was solid and no-nonsense. “Very firm with patients, no foolishness,” wrote one anonymous loved one in a representative review. All four reviewers indicated that they would recommend Colonial House to others.
