ABOUT ETMC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER
ETMC Behavioral Health Center is a part of the East Texas Medical Center (ETMC) and is dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health services. Our Chemical Dependency Unit offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for adults and adolescents who are struggling with addiction. We also provide medically monitored detoxification for individuals experiencing the physical effects of early withdrawal.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
At ETMC, we offer no-cost evaluations with qualified mental health professionals to determine if treatment is needed. The appropriate level of care is determined based on the severity of the addiction and the current stage of recovery. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan, regardless of the level of care.
Treatment options at ETMC include initial detoxification, inpatient residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient care. We have separate adult and adolescent units for both men and women, each staffed by medical and psychiatric professionals. Our adolescent treatment program is specifically designed for clients aged 13 to 17.
Our inpatient stabilization program is intended for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and requires a doctor’s order for admission. The typical path for the inpatient program includes stabilizing the crisis, assessment and diagnosis, detoxification if necessary, medication management, individual or group therapy, planning the next steps of treatment, and transitioning back home.
Detoxification generally takes four to seven days to complete, while residential inpatient care can last between 28 days and three months. For those who need to maintain their work and home commitments, our “New Choices” outpatient program allows individuals to commute to treatment three to five days per week, during the day or evening.
Our programming includes individual, group, and family counseling, along with medication management and 12-step support groups such as AA or NA. Additionally, clients participate in didactic education groups that provide valuable information about the physical and mental aspects of addiction, as well as the process of change and recovery.
Our chemical dependency care groups offer peer-support within each unit, helping individuals deal with relapse triggers and challenges after leaving treatment.
ETMC also offers an 18-bed PTSD unit at our Behavioral Health Center, along with outpatient programs. This program is open to active and veteran members of the military, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and victims of serious crimes or accidents.
