ABOUT NEW DIMENSIONS DAY TREATMENT CENTERS
With locations in Houston (Clear Lake Programs) and Shenandoah, Texas (Woodlands Program), the two New Dimensions Day Treatment Centers are designed to treat adults and adolescents (ages 13 to 18) struggling with psychiatric disorders, chemical dependency, or co-occurring disorders. The facilities provide partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for individuals with a primary psychiatric condition or a co-occurring disorder, as well as IOPs for individuals struggling with a primary substance abuse disorder. The facilities do not provide medical detoxification services on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients first participate in a psychiatric and/or substance abuse assessment to determine an appropriate level of care and treatment program. Clients with a primary substance abuse disorder will be referred to New Dimensions’ intensive outpatient program, while individuals with psychiatric concerns or a dual diagnosis may be referred to PHP or IOP, depending on individual client needs.
Held in the evenings from Monday to Thursday, IOP for chemical dependency is founded on the principles and practices of the 12-step model of recovery. Clients are introduced to the peer-led fellowship and process Step 1 though Step 4 of the recovery model. In addition, New Dimensions offer psycho-educational classes on accepted personal responsibility, developing relapse prevention skills, the health risks of addiction, and changing thinking patterns. Multi-family groups are also held two Wednesdays per month.
New Dimensions offers specialized partial hospitalization programs for individuals struggling with a primary psychiatric condition, as well as a separate PHP for those with a dual diagnosis. Adult PHP involves daily programming from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, while adolescent PHP is held on weekday evenings to accommodate typical school hours.
Through group classes and counseling sessions, PHP focuses on goal setting, developing copings skills, and modifying thinking and behavior patterns, along with ongoing medication management. New Dimensions also encourages loved ones to participate in family education and counseling sessions, particularly in adolescent programs. To address substance abuse concerns, the dual diagnosis program integrates the 12-step model of recovery and addiction education into PHP programming.
Following similar programming but less-intensive than PHP, intensive outpatient programs consist of three-hour group sessions, and clinicians may encourage PHP graduates to step-down to IOP after discharge, helping clients maintain treatment gains in PHP. Clinicians also provides case management, which may include referrals to vocational training, supportive housing, and other community-based resources.
