ABOUT SUNDOWN M RANCH
Founded in 1968, Sundown M Ranch is a nonprofit treatment center situated on 30 acres of land near the Yakima River Canyon in Washington State. The facility serves both adolescents and adults who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Available services include detox, residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), and standard outpatient care (OP). Additionally, the organization facilitates peer-to-peer mentorship through its alumni program.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
In some cases, same-day admission to Sundown M Ranch is available, though most clients seeking residential treatment complete a pre-admission application before receiving an admission date. Clients typically begin their treatment with a detoxification period. Once stabilized, they engage in a highly structured curriculum that draws upon the 12-Steps and incorporates individual, group, and family therapy, as well addiction education and ongoing evaluation. Specialty treatment tracks are available for older adults, pregnant and post-partum women, and individuals who have experienced a relapse. Additionally, residents have access to fitness activities and chaplain services.
Adolescent clients may continue to attend school while undergoing treatment through the center’s school program, which is operated in conjunction with the Selah School District. In addition to earning academic credit, students receive daily physical education that includes basketball, volleyball, running, and weightlifting.
Outpatient treatment for clients and their families is available through individualized counseling and the center’s IOP program, which utilizes addiction education and group counseling.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com were mostly positive, though some alumni complained about the staff’s training and the program’s counseling. Amy found the quality of care to be “inconsistent,” and Deborah noted that her counselor was “in training” and “going through a relapse herself.” Another anonymous reviewer felt that the facility could have done a better job addressing mental health concerns. M.T., who characterized the program as “great,” offered some criticism regarding the program’s individual counseling. “I really did not receive much one on one time with my counselor but if I needed her she was there for me. I would suggest to some of the staff that they get out of their big offices and interact with the patients a little more,” M.T. wrote.
Despite these concerns, most alumni were satisfied with the care they received. Multiple clients found the treatment to be both affordable and ultimately effective. “I had the tools to change, and a strong AA connection. The facility is beautiful, the food is fantastic, and the counselors were all great. I wanted to stay forever,” Trish wrote in a representative review.
