Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula – The Recovery Center of Monterey, Calif. offers outpatient-based treatment to adult men and women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health concerns. The Recovery Center is a part of the larger Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, which was first founded in 1934.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s treatment program follows the 12-step model of recovery. In addition, treatment plans include education classes, skill-building workshops, and a strong family component. If necessary, physicians can provide medical detox on an outpatient basis, making it part of the 14% of facilities in California that offer medical detox.

Upon admission, clients also receive a psychiatric evaluation. Ongoing psychiatric care may be incorporated into the treatment plan as necessary. The treatment program meets in the evenings to enable clients to continue working, going to school, etc.

Throughout treatment, clients participate in individual and group therapy, family therapy sessions, and are educated on self-help and relapse prevention. Participants may receive medication to help with addiction and withdrawal following an evaluation and consultation.

Aftercare is available for all clients who successfully complete the program. Alumni are eligible to receive services as outlined in their individual recovery plan tailored to meet their specific needs. There is also program for clients following aftercare to help alumni stay substance-free.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no detailed information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff and their credentials other than the chemical dependency certified physicians who oversee detox. The two individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date each gave the staff’s level of support a perfect five-star rating. The facility’s website notes that, collectively, the staff has “over 125 years of personal recovery experience.”

At the time of this writing, the one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com, A.A.H., was satisfied with the treatment offered at the facility, offering perfect five-star ratings for the effectiveness of lead counselors and group counseling sessions, as well as the ability for the program to resolve conflict. They also noted that they did not relapse after leaving the program.

Reviews on secondary sites were also largely positive for the hospital, as a whole, rather than specific to the Recovery Center. On the facility’s Facebook page, which it may control, 526 reviews gave the facility an average rating of 4.6 out of five stars.[1] On Google reviews, the facility received an average rating of 3.4 stars based on 70 reviews.[2] Reviewers tended to praise the attentive, dedicated staff members.

The sole loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, a spouse of a client, also gave a positive review of the facility. Offering perfect five-star ratings for the facility’s level of family participation, its counseling options, and the staff’s level of experience and training, the loved one wrote, “I enjoyed the family involvement,” and described the staff as “very supportive.”
