ABOUT COMMUNITY HUMAN SERVICES GENESIS HOUSE

Community Human Services Genesis House, located in Seaside, California, offers residential treatment to adult men and women seeking treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. There is also a perinatal program for pregnant or parenting women, making CHSGH one of the 27.8% of facilities in California that offer a similar program. Detox services are available on-site.

Aside from adult services, Genesis House offers services to displaced teens. Sober living facilities as well as counseling and outreach programs are made available to keep teens off of the streets and out of dangerous home situations. Genesis House is an arm of Community Human Services which has been in existence since 1969 providing mental health, substance abuse, and homeless services to residents of Monterey County.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Genesis House’s treatment program follows the 12-Step recovery plan, just like 47.7% of the facilities in the country. Throughout treatment, clients receive ongoing assessments, case management, and individualized treatment planning. Medically supervised detoxification services are available for those who need it.

Clients participate in both group and individual counseling as well as 12-Step meetings. Clients receive education on relapse prevention and referrals for training and employment services, housing assistance, and other community resources.

Genesis House is one of 50% of nationwide facilities that provide transportation to and from medical and legal appointments. Continuing care and aftercare is available for alumni that successfully complete treatment at the facility. Family members are included in the treatment plan, but details are also unavailable.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Genesis House is accredited by CARF, part of the only 28% of facilities with that accreditation. It is also certified by the State of California, and all staff members have licensing and education requirements.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility offers 28 beds in the co-ed residential facility and 8 beds in the perinatal, female-only residential facility. Children age five and under of women in the perinatal program are allowed to stay with their mothers during treatment. Clients generally stay up to 10 months.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, the two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date offered generally positive reviews for the facility. Although one alum believed that the treatment was effective, staff experienced, and that there was ample family participation, the alum gave three out of five stars for facility cleanliness, affordability, and counseling options. The alum also felt the facility could incorporate more faith-based programming into its treatment.

Alum Irene offered perfect five-star ratings for most aspects of the facility, including its ability to resolve conflict, the effectiveness of group counseling, and the respect shown to clients. “This place will love you until you are able to love yourself. You will not be pampered here but you will be taught how to fight for your life,” she wrote.

On Yelp, a single reviewer, F.T., left a four out of five star review. She wrote that she believes the “staff take on a very difficult task and they work hard and do their best.” She indicated that the meetings were an effective way for clients to understand the “struggles” of their peers.

WHAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, there has been one friend or family member polled by Best-rehabs.com about Genesis House. The loved one gave the facility slightly negative feedback. The anonymous individual gave the facility four out five stars for connectivity and facility cleanliness, but only two out of five stars for its exercise and leisure options, affordability, and counseling options.

She disagreed that the facility was adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems and that the treatment and services offered at the facility were worth the cost. She felt that a strength of the facility was that “it helps patients re-adjust their lives by living in the facility.” She also added, “since patients live in the facility for about a month, it will only work for patients who take their rehab seriously.” The loved one also felt more faith-based programming could benefit clientele.

WHAT STAFF SAY

At the time of this writing, there has been one staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com about Genesis House. The staff member, C.A., indicated that the facility is effective as long as the client has a willingness to become sober. C.A. gave the facility five out of five stars for management’s willingness to put patients’ interests first, five stars for management’s experience/treatment credentials, and five stars for the overall quality of care offered.

She added additional commentary. “(The facility) is appropriate if potential client is very impulsive and would like to learn boundaries and self discipline…The program is affordable that it is based on ability to pay. Success depends on the clients willingness to remain clean and sober.”

FINANCING

The cost of treatment at Genesis House is $3,600 per month for private-pay, co-ed residents and $5,000 per month for perinatal residents. The facility also offers sliding scale fees with a minimum of $5 per day for those who qualify. Some private insurance plans are accepted by the facility, but Medi-Cal is not accepted.
