ABOUT COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND SELF HELP (CRASH)

Located in San Diego, Calif., Community Resources And Self Help (CRASH) focuses on assisting individuals struggling with substance misuse disorders. Established in 1970, CRASH provides long-term residential treatment at three different locations in San Diego, each offering programs of varying lengths, treatment modalities, and other features.

CRASH is one of 485 facilities (33.9 percent) in California to provide long-term residential treatment. Additionally, the organization offers day treatment, outpatient recovery services, and community education. CRASH is a non-profit organization, representing 54.9 percent of treatment facilities in the state.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Bill Dawson Residential Recovery Program, located in downtown San Diego, provides the longest treatment program, lasting from four to six months. According to CRASH’s website, it is an adult co-ed residential treatment program that utilizes the therapeutic community model of recovery. The program aims to encourage and facilitate positive changes within the residential clients through a comprehensive and holistic approach.

Two other locations offer an intensive 90-day residential treatment program focused on individual responsibility for recovery and successful reintegration into the community. The male-specific Short Term I program is located in City Heights, while the female-specific Short Term II program is located in the Golden Hill area.

All three treatment programs include individual recovery planning, individual and group therapy, group problem-solving exercises, family nights, vocational services, and educational workshops. Many of the workshops focus on relapse prevention. After completing a program, clients participate in an aftercare program.
