ABOUT FOOTPRINTS BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Based out of Los Angeles’ Canoga Park, Footprints Behavioral Health (formerly Kool Living Recovery center) provides a comprehensive range of treatment programs for adult men and women struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Operating three facilities in Capistrano Beach, Winnetka, and San Clemente, Footprints CBH offers residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs as well as highly specialized, substance-specific medically managed detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients undergo an initial substance abuse and psychiatric assessment upon admission to identify their unique needs and determine an appropriate level of care. When necessary, Footprints BHC offers specialized detoxification protocols for alcohol, opioids, meth, prescription meds, and other substances. Those who require monitoring and a highly structured schedule to achieve and maintain sobriety may be referred for residential care, which typically lasts between 30 and 90 days.

Individualized from the start, the residential treatment program makes use of 12-step principles with evidence-based and holistic treatment approaches. Residents benefit from individual and group therapy, educational classes, as well as holistic treatments like art and music therapy, movement therapy, guided meditation, yoga, and nature outings. In its effort to address co-occurring mental health conditions, the center uses cognitive therapy and natural neuroceuticals (to target neurotransmitter imbalances).

For those seeking a more moderate treatment option, day treatment or intensive outpatient (IOP) programs may bring about better results. In the first option, day treatment participants spend as many as six to eight hours a day, five to seven days a week in treatment while residing either at home or at a nearby sober-living home. The IOP focuses on relapse prevention, helping clients transition successfully back into their community. Both options can serve as either stand-alone programs or as a step-down aftercare service following residential care.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Led by a clinical director who is a licensed drug and alcohol counselor in recovery, Footprints BHC employs a consulting psychiatrist, a psychologist, several addiction counselors, and a nurse.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Footprints BHC operates three homelike facilities, which can accommodate up to six people. Residents stay in shared or private rooms (for an additional fee) and have access to well-furnished communal areas, an on-site swimming pool, and limited internet access at certain times. Footprints BHC also regularly arranges for trips to the beach, day hikes, and other off-site sober activities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The five former clients surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date provided highly polarized accounts of their personal treatment experiences. While two described the program as highly effective, three were more critical, citing issues of disorganization and of a staff who were more motivated by money than helping clients. “Poor facility and unorganized. Staff with big egos,” wrote alum Alex. “Avoid this place.” Sharing only one star for treatment effectiveness, alum Pretty added succinctly: “Horrible company, horrible staff.”

Much in contrast, alum Cynthia claimed to have “loved this place.” “They saved my life,” she told Best-rehabs.com. And Shawn, who gave all five-star ratings, referred to the center as an “amazing place.” “They helped me realize I wasn’t a bad person and helped me get on my way to recovery,” he commented.

To date, secondary sources reveal overall approval of the facility. On Google, where 29 individuals awarded the center an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars, several referred to their decision to enroll as the single best decision of their lives.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

With some exceptions, accounts provided by Google reviewers, the family members, were also mostly positive. Many cited a supportive recovery environment and staff. “Excellent staff, very caring a friendly,” wrote Angel on her brothers recovery. Yet Brandon was much more critical. “Do yourself a favor and look for a better rehab,” he warned others. “They won’t help you.”

FINANCING

Footprints BHC accepts most major health insurance providers, like Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, and CIGNA. The facility offers free insurance verification and financing options for qualified individuals.

Owner is driven by $$$ driving a Maserati.... He purchased this Masarati the same week he laid off an entire night crew....He could care less about the clients he serves.
I went to Kool Living detox center and it was an amazing place. One woman staff member in particular and the rest of the staff definitely went above and beyond their job description to help me through my heroine withdraws. They helped me realize I wasn't a bad person and helped get me on my way to recovery. I am truly thankfull to these people I owe you my life. Thank you do much

Poor facility and unorganized. Staff with big egos. Clients had to wait to go on day trips and cigarette runs. The food portions are very small and menu is very basic with very little taste. Chef Anthony was full of excuses and little knowledge. Avoid this place
