Kaiser Permanente – Fontana Medical Center

ABOUT KAISER PERMANENTE — FONTANA MEDICAL CENTER

One of over 600 Kaiser Permanente medical facilities across the nation, the Fontana Medical Center is a general medical hospital that commenced operations in May 2013. Situated within the center is a mental health facility that offers outpatient treatment for children, adolescents, and adults facing mental and behavioral health challenges, including individuals with substance abuse issues.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment approach of this center incorporates individual, group, and family psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention services.

Specifics of the treatment programs at the Fontana Center are not disclosed. However, at other Kaiser Permanente mental health facilities, involvement in external recovery meetings is deemed mandatory, and staff members strongly advocate participation in 12-step programs or alternative secular meetings, such as Life Ring.

While the intensity of the treatment programs at this center is not elaborated upon, other Kaiser Permanente facilities offer 21-day partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), general outpatient care, and aftercare programs with a minimum commitment of five months.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility does not currently provide information regarding the credentials of its treatment staff. However, given that the mental health center is situated on the premises of a general medical hospital, there is a significant presence of doctors and nurses nearby. In surveys submitted to Best-rehabs.com, the staff received highly positive rankings, with three perfect ratings of five out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the two alumni reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com thus far, one was largely positive while the other was mixed in opinion. The positive reviewer awarded four- and five-star ratings across all 15 evaluated treatment metrics, including overall effectiveness, holistic options, family programming, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. An anonymous reviewer wrote, “Great drs fun acitive… I got off of crystal methamphetamine by this rehab and my life is so much better,” but mentioned a dislike for the food and other clients. The other reviewer awarded the center three out of five stars for overall effectiveness and two out of five stars for holistic offerings.

At the time of writing, the CiteHealth website had two one-star ratings and one four-star rating for the facility. Both one-star reviewers expressed feelings of disempowerment, claiming that treatment at the center worsened their issues. However, the four-star reviewer wrote: “I attended the outpatient program and was very pleased with my experience. They gave me lots of tools to use to overcome my addiction. The majority of the staff were very helpful, kind, and considerate.”

Although there was no further information on the CDRP from secondary review sites, general coverage of the hospital was mixed. Google reviews yielded an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars based on 147 reviews, while Facebook reviews resulted in an average rating of 4.1 out of five stars based on over one thousand reviews.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the three loved ones surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date, two would recommend the center, while one would not. All three reviewers awarded the center four or five out of five stars for its family programming and holistic treatment options. However, the negative reviewer gave Fontana Medical Center just one star for overall treatment effectiveness, stating, “I just felt like they would let him come in and stay a few days & dry out and then send him on his way. He did this multiple times with the same results each time. He never did get sober and has since passed away from his addiction.”

The other two reviewers awarded four out of five stars for the center’s overall effectiveness. They also praised the understanding displayed at the facility and found no weaknesses in the treatment provided.

FINANCING

Services are available to Kaiser Permanente members. The Fontana Medical Center’s website states that clients are treated regardless of their economic status, but it does not clarify whether the center offers financial assistance to enhance the accessibility of care.

  • Understanding the patients needs. No weaknesses. They are doing what I feel is the best for the patient. It was scary for my loved one at first. But she was reassured by my family and the center that everything would be comfortable and she will come out of it being happy and refreshed and feeling great.

  • I just felt like they would let him come in and stay a few days & dry out and then send him on his way. He did this multiple times with the same results each time. He never did get sober and has since passed away from his addiction. Don't think it really is a long term solution. I would want a treatment plan that really assisted my recovery. I feel all they really did was medicate him while he dried out and then told him where group sessions were and the rest was up to him. It did not work for him/us.
