About Caron Renaissance — Boca Raton

Caron operates four residential rehab centers in Philadelphia and Florida as well as regional and outpatient centers up and down the east coast. Caron Renaissance, located in Boca Raton, Fla., offers medical detox and long-term residential treatment for young adults and adults struggling with substance abuse, process addictions such as gambling and eating disorders, and co-occurring disorders. It uses the Florida model, which separates living quarters from the treatment center.

Treatment & Assessment

According to the center’s website, the length of stay varies according to the client’s needs. Caron describes its programs as family-focused and holistic. The residential program is multidisciplinary, drawing from psychology, addiction counseling, medicine, nutrition, health and wellness, and spirituality. It also uses the 12-Steps and neurofeedback.

Programs are gender-specific. For men, there’s a focus on learning to avoid compartmentalizing feelings, processing anger, and effective coping skills. The women’s program addresses problems such as sexual trauma, eating disorders, body image issues, and shame and guilt.

During a two-week “family restructuring” program, families live with their loved ones at the facility and attend group programs with them. The “College Bound” program allows residents to begin or continue college studies, or set and achieve other academic goals.

A variety of continuing care services are offered, including individual counseling, aftercare groups, alumni recharge weekends, and a buddy program.

Staff Credentials

According to the facility’s website, the treatment team includes a psychiatrist, and two master’s level therapists, one with special qualifications in trauma and sexual therapy. The eight reviewers polled on the staff’s level of training and experience at the time of this writing gave it an average rating of 3.38 out of five stars.

Accommodations & Amenities

Clients live in modern, gender-separate, apartment-style residences on a palm tree-lined street a few blocks from the beach. Photographs published on the facility’s website show a pool, lawn and patio areas, and fire pits. It is one of 76 centers across Florida that offer either short or long-term residential treatment options.

What Alumni Say

The 17 alumni reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing are evenly split between positive and negative, with one neutral survey.

On the upside, a majority of the positive reviewers enjoyed the amenities offered high praise to the staff for helping turn their lives around.

Nearly half the reviewers described the program as very harsh. However, others suggest that the rigorous nature of the program is what makes it worthwhile. Unfortunately, some clients also noted a class component to treatment, feeling that it was aimed mainly at affluent clients, leaving them feeling alienated. Others felt the center was unreasonably priced.

What Friends & Family Say

The 10 loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided mixed opinions, though in this case they skewed slightly more positive.

Reviewers repeatedly praised the family program, and one reviewer spoke highly of the vocational and college-bound programs. A few echoed the sentiments of alums in saying the tough love approach worked. One review said it helped “shake one out of old patterns.”

Still, several loved ones raised safety concerns about clients being released before they were ready either for violating the rules or because they could no longer pay. Numerous reviewers also echoed alumni by complaining about the facility’s treatment methods. “Very confrontational, demeaning, disrespectful of the client and family,” Brenn wrote.

Financing

Caron offers scholarships to qualifying individuals, and has relationships with financial loans companies to further increase the accessibility of treatment. The facility does not appear to accept insurance. The eight reviewers polled on the facility’s affordability at the time of this writing gave it a fairly low rating of 2.13 out of five stars.

Caron Renaissance Reviews

^^ Does NOT even deserve one star. The absolute worst rehab facility you could ever imagine. All they care about is taking your money. They will say anything to get you in the door. I was assured I could have my ESA. As soon as we entered the facility they told me I could not have my ESA and tried to have me board my dog. Again, spending more money. Meanwhile, there are ESA‘s walking all around the facility. This was going to be my second time returning to this facility and they made it absolutely impossible to receive the help I so hoped for. The attitude of the staff was a complete abomination. You would think they would take better care of their alumni. When looking for a mental health facility THIS IS NOT the place !!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!! Worst treatment center you will ever experience.
Whoever is referring you here gets a humongous referral fee because of the amount you have to pay in cash to go there. They made my family think that if I went to an insurance covered Treatment Center it was going to be garbage and I would be dead in no time. Let me tell you that recovery Centers of America and many other treatment centers that I've been to got ten times more treatment then I did a Karen. I left Karen with so many more mental issues that I did walking in there. If you are new to trying to find out how to help your kid I am open to you emailing me and I will give you advice of course for free and actually tell you what I think Direction you should try going in my email is NickKiefer919 AT Gmail ( I'm sorry to have to write my email in that strength way but unfortunately I've left comments before and a lot of these treatment centers pay all the websites to delete comments like mine especially ones they give the chance to give true reviews two families or try to help them so reach out to me if you need help I will try to at least guide you in the way I wish I went in in the first place because now me and a lot of people are struggling because of that one month that turned into a year and left most of us broken I pray for you and I pray that you at least do as much research as you can before sending anyone you love here. And I know you want to trust this therapist or whoever you're working with but remember a lot of the time in the back of their heads the most important thing is that $10,000 commission they're getting once your child gets sent there so please please do your own research and take a moment and listen to some of these people like me who have been there and have experienced and are still getting through it
One of the few treatment centers that are willing to focus on parents of addicts. Excellent job addressing enabling and codependency. Their family weekends were very powerful
Very intensive behavior based treatment. Not for everyone, but it's unique and effective. The transition out could have been a lot smoother. Putting people in a position to effectively address all their problems and deal with underlying issues that one wouldn't know contributes to their addiction. Staff are almost telepathic in their ability to read their patients. There is no help with the transition from a closed environment to the real word. It makes sense since people have to deal with the real world right away, however it feels like a very cold business transaction. Your done paying so you can go now. Even non-profits have a bottom-line I guess.
I credit my life being saved to AA, but the therapists at renaissance definitely played a major role. Yes, the treatment is no joke and I don't agree with everything they do. But the alternative (death) is much worse. The clinical director is the most genuine, generous, and caring person I have ever met. I am now in school full time with a 4.0. I have an amazing life. I have my family back and real friends. The therapists at renaissance don't just leave their work at the door... my current therapists still reach out to be on a daily basis just to see how I'm doing. They care. I recommend this place for late-stage addicts and alcoholics. It's definitely a last resort type treatment center. For the right patient, it works.
