ABOUT SPRINGBROOK HOSPITAL
Located in the suburbs of Brooksville, Fla., about 50 miles north of Tampa, SpringBrook Hospital offers a continuum of care for adults struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Springbrook operates an inpatient critical care unit for acute psychiatric distress, outpatient and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) to treat dual diagnoses, and a dedicated program for seniors struggling with psychiatric and/or addiction concerns.
According to a 2016 SAHMSA survey, the hospital is one of 19.6% of facilities in Florida to offer specialized treatment for seniors. Springbrook Hospital is a designated Baker Act receiving facility, which means the facility accepts involuntary admissions.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Springbrook Hospital begins with a series of evaluations, testings, and screenings to determine the appropriate level of care. In addition to self-referrals, clients can be admitted by family members, physicians, clinicians, community agencies, ministers, and the judicial system. After their initial assessment is complete, clients are recommended into the appropriate treatment track. Crisis intervention is available for those in need.
The Eclipse Dual Diagnosis Program uses customizable treatment to address co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. Treatment methods used include medication management, family education, group therapy, psychoeducational groups, and recreational therapy, along with community service activities. The Bridges Senior Program provides similar treatment with a focus on the needs of older men and women, ages 55 and up.
Finally, the Springbook Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Program provides comprehensive treatment to improve the independence and functionality of adults aged 18 and older who don’t require 24-hour care. Participants of PHP attend weekly one-on-one sessions with the facility psychiatrist as well as daily group sessions five days a week. Medical professionals are encouraged to refer clients for aftercare.

Springbrook Hospital’s multidisciplinary team is comprised of a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed therapists, licensed clinical social workers, medical practitioners, and registered nurses.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The 66-bed facility appears to be a straightforward psychiatric hospital, based on images from its website. Participants of PHP receive daily lunch and transportation services. To date, four Best-rehabs.com survey respondents shared average ratings of 3.5 and 3.25 out of five stars, respectively, for the facility’s accommodations and its cleanliness.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Two of the three anonymous former clients surveyed by Best-rehabs.com shared positive feedback for the facility. Two alumni gave the hospital four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, describing the staff and group therapy as “awesome” and “great and caring” and the hospital as having “an overall good program core.” These two alumni also gave four-star ratings for the facility’s discharge planning, counseling options, and the amount of family participation.
However, one alum did report a lack of holistic and alternative activities, and one unsatisfied alum wrote: “This was the worst experience of my life. I do not recommend this place to anyone.”
To date, the hospital has a below-average rating of 1.9 out of five stars from 34 Google reviewers. Though a handful of satisfied clients described the doctors and support staff as caring, the majority found the facility run-down, reporting unsafe and unprofessional practices and warning others to avoid treatment here. Two reviewers encountered staff who openly admitted being there solely for the paycheck. “STAY AWAY!! PLEASE,” wrote Google reviewer L.R. in a representative review.[1]
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two anonymous loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com as of this writing also left mostly positive reviews. Both awarded Springbrook four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, and three or more stars for the staff’s level of training and experience, the holistic offerings and exercise options, and the co-occurring treatment.
Together, loved ones applauded the staff’s “good knowledge of dual diagnosis,” describing the treatment as “educational and healing” and the staff as “fairly well-trained.” Yet they felt that the hospital was understaffed and that clients had minimal contact with the outside world.
WHAT STAFF SAY
On Indeed, 19 staff members awarded Springbrook Hospital an average rating of 2.2 out of five stars.[2] Like alumni and loved ones, staff had poor experiences working at the hospital. They claimed that management was unprofessional and prioritized money above all else, that facility equipment was outdated, and that the work environment was cutthroat and negative.
FINANCING
According to its website, Springbrook Hospital accepts Medicare and all major insurance plans.
