ABOUT SERENITY HOUSE, INC.

Founded in 1994, the non-profit agency Serenity House, Inc., operates four men’s and two women’s transitional living facilities for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. The long-term, 12-Step-based programs serve northeast Indiana with locations in Auburn and Warsaw. Detox services are not available at Serenity Houses. Of Indiana’s 305 treatment facilities, 26 (8.5 percent) offer long-term residential care.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients begin the admissions process to a Serenity House in Northeast Indiana with a written application and interview, according to the facility’s website. Applicants must be substance-free for three days before admission. Based solely on 12-step principles, the program lasts a minimum of nine months, although a stay between 12 to 18 months are recommended.

Within 30 days of admission, each client is asked to begin working with an Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous sponsor and to obtain a job. While residing at the house, residents attend at least one AA/NA meeting per day and expected to continually and actively work the steps. Eight AA and two NA meetings are hosted weekly at Serenity House’s headquarters, and clients are also encouraged to attend outside meetings.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, house managers are the organization’s main staff. There is currently no information available regarding staff credentials, however the one individual polled by Best-rehabs.com to date rated the staff’s level of training and experience five out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Serenity House facilities offer varying accommodations. The organization’s website indicates that all residents share dorm-style rooms and are assigned house chores. They also share some common meals at the main location’s dining hall.

At the opening of Serenity’s most recent house in October 2015, Kosciusko County digital newspaper InkFree News reported a total capacity of 82 beds.

Most homes are within walking distance of shops, parks, and other community amenities. One of the men’s Auburn houses has a gazebo, playground, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits set on seven acres.
