ABOUT REID HOSPITAL – PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES

Located in Richmond, Ind., 73 miles west of Indianapolis, Reid Hospital provides short-term inpatient care and outpatient-based services for adults and seniors struggling with a primary psychiatric disorder, chemical dependency, or co-occurring difficulties. Along with evidence-based treatment programming, Reid Hospital’s psychiatric unit provides crisis intervention and on-site medical detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, patients receive an initial psychiatric evaluation, and if necessary, a substance abuse assessment. The assessments help clinicians form an individualized treatment plan.

To provide the most effective treatment, seniors and adults are treated separately in designated units. According to the facility’s website, the goal of inpatient care to quickly stabilize the patient and refer them to longer-term treatment within the community.

Patients struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring concerns participate in individual therapy sessions, group counseling, family therapy, and activity groups. Groups are held on topics such as life skills, spirituality, goals, and medication education. Psychiatric treatment can include pharmacological intervention.

Reid Hospital also utilizes electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to assist adult patients struggling with severe depression. Programming for the elderly focuses on improving cognitive abilities related to age-related physiological disabilities. For instance, the facility offers a Kluter Relaxation Area, which provides sensory stimulation for withdrawn seniors.

Once a patient is stabilized, they may be referred to the hospital’s outpatient program, which involves ongoing counseling and medication management. It should be noted that outpatient programs only treat primary psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
