Tara Treatment Center Franklin Indiana

Tara Treatment Center provides a holistic approach to substance abuse treatment, promoting mental, physical and spiritual health. Combining 12-Step programs with evidence-based therapy, Tara offers treatment services such as detoxification, residential programs, outpatient care, anger management, individual and group counseling, and relapse prevention and coping strategies to encourage lifelong recovery.

ABOUT TARA TREATMENT CENTER

Situated on 13 acres of idyllic countryside just south of Indianapolis, Ind. since its founding in 1985, Tara Treatment Center offers 12-step treatment for adults struggling with addiction. This nonprofit facility offers a variety of services including on-site detox, gender-specific residential treatment, transitional residential treatment, standard outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient care, partial hospitalization (PHP), and aftercare. There is also a free service designed for friends and family members seeking a better understanding of addiction and recovery.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, Tara adopts a spiritually-based, holistic approach to treatment. Gender-specific residential treatment typically lasts 30 to 42 days. In addition to the 12 Steps, individual therapy, psychoeducation, and group counseling, Tara offers its clients recovery-specific yoga classes, experiential therapy, relapse prevention education, and equine-assisted therapy.

During that time, guests can receive mail and watch TV during designated periods. No outside reading material is permitted. Phone privileges are granted on a tiered system, and visitation is allowed every other Saturday (guests must attend the family education program before visiting a loved one).

Transitional residential treatment is available for residential clients who require further stabilization and support before returning home. Individuals who are better matched to outpatient care may choose from standard outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, and partial hospitalization. Aftercare groups meet once a week.

Outpatient services are held Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, Tara offers a staff-to-client ratio of 1:5. The center’s multidisciplinary staff is comprised of medical doctors, psychologists, licensed social workers, addiction counselors, and several licensed, master’s level counselors. The clinical director has a Ph.D. The eight individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com at time of writing gave the staff’s level of training and experience an average rating of 3.9 stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Tara Treatment Center’s online photo gallery displays fully-furnished sitting rooms and libraries, cheerful eat-in kitchens, and sun-drenched outdoor spaces dotted with gazebos and picnic tables. Sleeping quarters are shared. At time of writing, eight individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com gave the facility’s cleanliness an average rating of 4.75 out of five stars, indicating a highly positive opinion of facility maintenance.

The staff’s level of training and expertise received five stars from five alumni and an average of four stars from three other alumni. These alumni characterized staff as “supportive” and “caring” and alum A.P. wrote, “Great place, everyone who works there loves their jobs!” Alum Abbie added, “Tara Treatment Center’s Staff were instrumental in turning my life around COMPLETELY.”

Alumni appreciated the family programming (receiving a 4.7-star average from three alumni), but one respondent felt that visitation was too limited (a concern echoed by some loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com). Alum Asia wrote, “I didn’t like the fact we could barley talk to our families while there and that visits were so short.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

When surveyed, on a scale from one to five if they would recommend Tara Treatment Center, each of the five loved ones polled at the time of this writing agreed. “Overall nice experience,” one anonymous loved one wrote. The center’s exercise and leisure options received an above average rating of 3.5 out of five stars, but the program’s holistic offerings received the lowest rating of 2.8 stars. Additionally, some respondents felt that they didn’t have enough contact with their loved ones and staff during treatment. “We agreed upon Tara as they promised help for not just the addict, but our family. However, no such help was found. They acted as if it the patient was a prisoner and not a patient,” M.W. wrote.

Feelings were lukewarm on Google, where reviews from nine users to date generated a 3.8-star average.[1] Many alumni praised the staff, but the spouse of a former client indicated issues with payment and insurance, and the mother of a former client complained of her son being unfairly discharged.

  • I am a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor having been employed at Tara Treatment Center as well as other treatment programs. I believe Tara provides a premier program for Substance Dependence. The curriculum is designed for addiction education and long-term recovery lifestyle applications. 12 Step principles and fellowship are included in the program and intended to be implemented while residing at Tara. Many of the staff are in recovery, having attended treatment at Tara and exemplify their "ownership" of what the program is today. Clients enter a family atmosphere and spiritual setting upon entering the program and can enjoy a life-changing Tara Experience when they are ready and able to engage in the recovery process. I have and will continue to refer loved ones to Tara Treatment Center. Keep up the great work!

  • I voluntarily checked myself into Tara at the age of 44 years old. I had been an alcoholic and addict since the age of 18. It was my first attempt at sobriety. They gave me hope when I had none, taught me when I was unreachable and loved me until I could love myself. I truly believe that I wouldn't be alive today without Tara Treatment Center. The experience and dedication of the staff was excellent, in addition to the recovery model.

  • I enjoyed the counselors who worked there, the family therapy sessions and the meeting we went to. I didn't like the fact we could barley talk to our families while there and that visits were so short. The fact most of the staff has had a family member or they themselves have gone through some sort of treatment was a positive aspect. However, they don't let you connect with the outside world much.

  • By far the worst... We agreed upon Tara as they promised help for not just the addict, but our family. However, no such help was found. They acted as if it the patient was a prisoner and not a patient. Furthermore, the program only repeats itself. So, once you have been in for a week, you will do the same thing again and again. But, they insist upon a minimum of four weeks. My spouse was given all access to medical and psychological progress, but it was refused when requested. My spouse called the person in charge numerous times to beg for help but the calls went unreturned. Clearly, the money and not the help is the only concern of the majority of the staff. Our family had one good psychiatrist at Tara, everyone else was after our medical insurance. Sad, as it was a trying time for our entire family. The horses they claim to have is actually one horse with two ponies and you are not allowed to ride them. Week 4 you are allowed to be lead on the one horse that is at the facility. Whatever you do, do not send your loved one here.

  • I fell that in order for rehabs to be effective they must include 12 step programs or take patients to outside meeting which Tara did

  • Even though the fact that my daughter was there was a draw for me, I received wonderful counseling and all of the tools to stay clean and sober for almost 23 years now. I was required to have a valid sponsor before being discharged.

I wish this facility allowed patients to detox at the facility. That is the most difficult part for the family, and it was hard to get through without professional help.
