ABOUT OAKLAWN – GOSHEN CAMPUS

In operation since 1962, Oaklawn is a state-designated, faith-based organization in northern Indiana that provides mental health and addiction treatment services for residents of Elkhart and St. Joseph counties, including the Amish. Oaklawn’s Goshen campus, one of the organization’s four facilities, offers outpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, as well as residential psychiatric treatment for adults.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients receive a thorough assessment prior to admission to determine the appropriate level of care.

The Goshen campus offers a number of outpatient substance abuse programs, including a mixed gender intensive outpatient program (IOP), an IOP for women that utilizes the Matrix Model, a program for gambling addiction, and an early intervention program for marijuana users. All programs include group therapy, individual counseling, and addiction education classes, and clients are strongly encouraged to attend a 12-step groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

After completion of the outpatient program, Oaklawn provides a continuing care program, which includes relapse prevention planning and supportive intervention services.

The residential psychiatric program for adults utilizes evidence-based treatment modalities, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Treatment includes medication management, psychoeducational classes, and individual and group therapy.

In both residential and outpatient treatment, family participation is highly recommended, and family therapy sessions are offered to loved ones.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, Oaklawn employs a treatment team of board-certified psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, psychiatric nurses, licensed addiction counselors, master’s and doctorate level therapists, clinical social workers, and recreational therapists..

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 78-bed psychiatric facility provides clients with a secure, supervised, and safe environment that includes 24-hour access to clinical care. The hospital offers separate units for adults, adolescents, and children.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two former clients surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date gave Oaklawn’s Goshen campus mostly positive reviews. One gave the facility five out of five stars across almost all evaluated metrics, including treatment effectiveness, exercise and leisure activities, holistic offerings, cleanliness, family participation, counseling options, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and the experience and training of staff.

When asked, on a scale from one to five, if they would recommend the facility, both alumni gave a rating of five stars.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Oaklawn mixed reviews. T.W., whose son attended the facility, gave the rehab four out of five stars for its family participation, its meals and nutrition, its exercise and leisure offerings, its faith-based programming, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders. The parent gave lower ratings of two and three stars for holistic offerings, connectivity policy, counseling options, and 12-step programming.

The other loved one gave Oaklawn a mostly positive review, awarding the facility four or five out of five stars across most evaluated metrics, including treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, exercise and leisure activities, holistic offerings, affordability, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, Oaklawn will contact clients’ insurance company to see if treatment is covered. Financial assistance is available on a sliding scale via Indiana’s Hoosier Assurance Plan. The two alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date gave Oaklawn three out of five stars and five out of five stars respectively for its affordability.

  • Although treatment was successful, it was more from the peer to peer interaction than any staff-doctor interaction or session. I expected there would be more to keep us occupied, but there was a lot of time with nothing to do or scheduled. There was no planned leisure time activities or OT or PT or even exercise planned.

  • Staff can be empathetic and helpful. However, they are aggressive in gaining contol of people. Some staff instigate some clients. My son is no longer a client there. Rely to heavily on.medication. Is a faith based facility.
