Pine Grove has gained a reputation as one of the most comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities in the country. Since 1984, the drug and alcohol treatment center has been providing individuals with high-quality, cross-disciplinary addiction care that effectively addresses all facets of the disease. The facility is committed to changing lives through broad-reaching treatment options, giving each client the education and tools necessary to live a long and fulfilling life of sobriety.
ABOUT PINE GROVE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH & ADDICTION SERVICES
Set on 22 acres of wooded land in southern Mississippi, Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services provides substance abuse and psychiatric treatment to adults, adolescents, and children. The facility offers a wide range of specialized residential services, including gender- and age-specific addiction programs, dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, and a program for sex addiction. Detox services are available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Pine Grove’s website, the center offers a myriad of services including inpatient psychiatric, residential programs, outpatient programs, extended care, and intensive workshops.
The initial evaluation includes extensive psychological testing and addiction evaluation. Then clients are assigned to the appropriate group for treatment. In addition to the sex addiction program, which is called the Gratitude, there are programs for men (Next Step) and women (The Women’s Center). The Legacy program is specifically designed for clients 40 years old and over.
Treatment varies slightly from program to program, but all programs use the same basic principles. The center utilizes individual and group therapy, and treatment is grounded in 12-step philosophy. Evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are combined with experiential activities like art therapy and weekly rope-course challenges. A one-week family program is also offered for loved ones.
Outpatient services are also available at Pine Grove and includes an assessment, medication management, individual therapy, marital therapy, and family therapy.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
According to the center’s website, because it is an extension of Forrest General Hospital, Pine Grove has a full medical team on staff. The facility also employs a psychiatrist, an addictionologist, and a certified dietitian, as well as nurses, clinical therapists, and counselors.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Residents live in comfortable, community environments with their treatment group. Of particular note is the Women’s Center, which takes place in a renovated inn with an outdoor pool. Residents live in shared rooms.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the 12 alumni who were polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing, eight gave positive reviews for Pine Grove, while four gave very negative reviews.
Alumni were the most impressed with the staff’s level of training and experience. The five alumni polled on this metric gave an average rating of 3.6 out of five stars. Alum Noah wrote: “Fantastic value proposition great staff and a solid facility. Strong sense of community and working together while focusing on the individuals needs. Highly recommend.”
Alumni also were pleased with the level of family participation and facility cleanliness, which the five polled gave 3.4-star average ratings. When asked, on a scale from one to five, whether they would recommend treatment at Pine Grove facility, the five alumni also offered an average rating of 3.4.
The facility’s counseling options and its available exercise and leisure provisions received the lowest average ratings of 2.8 and 2.6 out of five stars, respectively. Alum S.T. was pleased with the benefits and results of the program. “I was skeptical about how much I’d be able to gain and I am glad to say that I was surprised with the benefits and results of the program,” they wrote.
Many alumni credited the program with saving their lives and helping them reach sobriety. Alum Michael had nothing but the highest praise for Pine Grove: “I honestly believe Pine Grove saved my life,” he wrote. “I don’t think I would be sober today without my stay there…. Pine Grove taught me how to live and be happy in my new sober world.”
Another alum gave the facility five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, but wrote: “Food at the Women’s Center was terrible and very restrictive as far as options. Hospital food. No outside food was allowed.Phone privileges were too restrictive. Maximum of 40 minutes per week.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The 15 loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave mixed reviews. On average, loved ones gave Pine Grove 3.78 out of five stars when asked if they would recommend Pine Grove.
Loved ones rated the facility highly for its cleanliness and the staff’s level of training and experience, at respective average ratings of 4.13 and 3.71 out of five stars. A loved one wrote: “This center is very professional and the staff is super helpful and smart,” but also commented that treatment was expensive and that it lasted too long. Another loved one echoed that thought and wrote:“This place is very expencive but one of the best in business and best in region.”
One of the loved ones who had a negative experience at Pine Grove wrote: “It seemed like they over diagnosed her, and said she had more addictions than she did instead of focusing on the main problem(s).”
WHAT STAFF SAY
The two staff members who were surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave mixed reviews.
One staff member, Darrin, gave only two out of five stars for the effectiveness of treatment and the quality of the food and accommodations, but he praised the “quality medical staff.”
However, another former staff member gave Pine Grove four- and five-star ratings for its treatment effectiveness, pricing, and the staff’s level of training and experience. He wrote: “I worked at this facility for several years. I saw many patients start on their road to recovery through this facility.”
FINANCING
Pine Grove accepts most major insurance providers and offers financing options to cover the cost of treatment. The facility’s official website does not provide the exact cost of treatment, but does state that it varies depending on program, length of stay, insurance, and other variables.
