Pine Grove has gained a reputation as one of the most comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities in the country. Since 1984, the drug and alcohol treatment center has been providing individuals with high-quality, cross-disciplinary addiction care that effectively addresses all facets of the disease. The facility is committed to changing lives through broad-reaching treatment options, giving each client the education and tools necessary to live a long and fulfilling life of sobriety.

Set on 22 acres of wooded land in southern Mississippi, Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services provides substance abuse and psychiatric treatment to adults, adolescents, and children. The facility offers a wide range of specialized residential services, including gender- and age-specific addiction programs, dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, and a program for sex addiction. Detox services are available on-site.

According to Pine Grove’s website, the center offers a myriad of services including inpatient psychiatric, residential programs, outpatient programs, extended care, and intensive workshops.

The initial evaluation includes extensive psychological testing and addiction evaluation. Then clients are assigned to the appropriate group for treatment. In addition to the sex addiction program, which is called the Gratitude, there are programs for men (Next Step) and women (The Women’s Center). The Legacy program is specifically designed for clients 40 years old and over.

Treatment varies slightly from program to program, but all programs use the same basic principles. The center utilizes individual and group therapy, and treatment is grounded in 12-step philosophy. Evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are combined with experiential activities like art therapy and weekly rope-course challenges. A one-week family program is also offered for loved ones.

Outpatient services are also available at Pine Grove and includes an assessment, medication management, individual therapy, marital therapy, and family therapy.

According to the center’s website, because it is an extension of Forrest General Hospital, Pine Grove has a full medical team on staff. The facility also employs a psychiatrist, an addictionologist, and a certified dietitian, as well as nurses, clinical therapists, and counselors.

Residents live in comfortable, community environments with their treatment group. Of particular note is the Women’s Center, which takes place in a renovated inn with an outdoor pool. Residents live in shared rooms.

Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services Reviews

As the spouse of someone who went through the gratitude program at PG, I would not waste the money and would never recommend sending someone there. It is extremely overrated and overpriced--and there is ZERO communication for the spouse. In fact, they are actually secretive with the spouse about what is going on. When my husband first arrived, no one contacted me from Pine Grove for 5 days to even tell me he arrived and checked in. Then when I finally talked to my husband, we weren't allowed to talk about anything other than "the news, sports and weather". We were told that he would not be allowed to use his phone or computer under any circumstances, but then they let him use both his phone and computer to "check work emails". They knew for days that he had reached out to the AP and no one would have ever told me had I not figured it out on my own. Finally, after leaving the program there has been no follow up to see how he is managing back in real life. It is a complete waste of money and I would not recommend to anyone.

Pine Grove saved and enriched my life in 2008. I had not dealt with resentments and distorted thoughts that eventually lead to addiction, and despair. I did 6 weeks in Next Step before going to PEP. I’m forever indebted to these people. My life is one of peace and fulfillment. I left with tools in my tool box to live life on life’s terms. Thank you!!!
Treatment was intense and very effective. Individual and group therapy was very helpful. Combined with the program therapy and the supportive program community gives me a great feeling of hope for my on going recovery. I completed the 60 day program
My time at Pine Grove was the best experience of my life. Many times in life, it is what you make it. I absolutely loved Pine Grove and will forever be indebted to their treatment team as well as the peers I had during my stay.
