ABOUT MONTANA CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY CENTER IN BUTTE, MT
Montana Chemical Dependency Center (MCDC), located in Butte, Mont., offers residential and detoxification treatment to men and women struggling with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. MCDC was founded in 1993 and moved into their current facility in 2014.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To be admitted, clients must be referred by a licensed addictions counselor (LAC). MCDC does not accept walk-ins. According to the facility website, length of treatment varies by individual and can last up to 35 days or more.
The facility’s treatment program is client-centered, outcome-informed, and includes an individualized treatment plan for each client. Throughout treatment, clients receive individual and group therapy, relapse prevention planning and education, transition planning, access to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous classes, spiritual opportunities, and infectious disease surveillance. Clients in need of detoxification may receive medication at the facility under the care of a medical doctor.
A typical day at MCDC begins with breakfast and a medical screening followed by group therapy, nurse education, fitness education, and lunch. After lunch, clients complete chores and have another medical screening followed by group therapy, independent study time, dinner, 12-step meetings, guided imagery, and quiet time before bed.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team at MCDC includes medical doctors, registered nurses, treatment technicians, addiction counselors, mental health therapists, care managers, and administrative staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
MCDC operates on a three building campus and provides gender-specific, 16-bed housing for men and women. There is also a 16-bed building for those in need of detoxification services. The facility has an exercise room, an outdoor basketball court, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. Clients at this facility are not allowed the use of cell phones, any products containing tobacco, or any products containing caffeine.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
There have been four alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at time of writing, and all gave mixed but generally positive reviews. Three of the anonymous clients gave the facility three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, and the fourth alum gave the facility five out of five stars in this category. Alumni gave average ratings of 3.5 stars for counseling options, 1.5 stars for family participation, and 3 stars for holistic offerings.
When asked about strengths of the facility, one alum praised the on-site staff: “The people who work there believe in what they are doing and want to help you learn to help yourself.” Another anonymous alum said: “best month and a half of my life.” One alum felt that: “Most of the people there are court ordered” and “don’t want to be there and dont want to do better.” However, the alum felt the facility was effective for patients who actively worked towards recovery. “If you want to get sober this is a good place to do it,” they wrote.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The three loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at time of writing gave mixed reviews about MCDC. The reviews were largely polarized, with loved ones either rating the facility highly or poorly.
The only category where the three loved ones agreed was the affordability of the facility, which they all rated highly. One loved one noted that treatment at MCDC was, “covered by most insurances,” while another loved one said, “It is free to those with no resources.”
Two loved ones found the facility’s treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and counseling options to be quite good, rating the categories four and five stars (out of five). These two alumni also lauded the staff’s level of training and experience. One loved one appreciated the regular AA and NA meetings that MCDC facilitated.
The third loved one left negative ratings and commentary: “it is a waste of time. The success rate is very low.”
FINANCING
The cost of treatment at MCDC is approximately $400 per day, but fees are calculated based on each client’s ability to pay. The facility accepts Medicare and private insurance. Clients are encouraged to contact the facility directly for additional information regarding the cost of treatment.
