ABOUT RIO GRANDE COUNSELING & GUIDANCE SERVICES
Located in Albuquerque, N.M., Rio Grande Counseling & Guidance Services provides a variety of programs such as therapy and counseling to children, teens, and adults. The center also offers an intensive outpatient (IOP) program for individuals struggling with alcohol and substance abuse.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, Rio Grande Counseling & Guidance offers a variety of services for children, teens, adults, and families. Services include marriage or couples counseling, domestic violence counseling, family therapy, crisis counseling, supportive therapy groups, play therapy, and parenting help.
The IOP at Rio Grande Counseling & Guidance includes extensive outpatient medical supervision, individual and family sessions, groups, and monthly meetings with the medical treatment team. Programming is required three days a week, or nine hours per week, minimum for IOP and lasts a minimum of 12 weeks.
The program uses an evidence-based curriculum. Buprenorphine is offered at the center. However, methadone is not.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s website indicates the treatment team includes licensed art therapists, counselors, family specialists, addiction specialists, social workers, psychologists, and medical doctors.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The one alum who was surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing left a positive review. The alum gave Rio Grande Counseling & Guidance Services five out of five stars when asked if they would recommend the center, but awarded just three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. Low ratings of one or two stars were awarded for accommodations, meals and nutrition, leisure and exercise provisions, and holistic inclusion.
The 29 alumni who left ratings with Google at the time of this writing had mixed responses, awarding an average of 2.8 out of five stars. One alumn wrote: “I just have to say I feel very glad that this place exists. I feel very secure knowing that the people I see are there for me.” Alum Jennifer added: “I have reffered several people to the IOP program and to counseling.”
However, multiple alumni also left concerning reports on Google. One alum mentioned a doctor had “no concern regarding the heath of care of a patient.” Another alumn wrote: “Lack of better words it is a poor administration. In the end i guess its just a business.”

The one loved one who left a review on Google at the time of this writing had a positive experience with Rio Grande Counseling & Guidance Services. They wrote: “We had very good results from the program… The support we received was very helpful to me and his father.”
FINANCING
According to the center’s website, the facility accepts most insurances.
