ABOUT CAZENOVIA RECOVERY SYSTEMS – SUNDRAM MANOR
Operated by the nonprofit Cazenovia Recovery Systems in Niagara Falls, N.Y., Sundram Manor is a men’s-only residential rehab facility, specifically serving individuals who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness, including those involved in the court system. Clients receive treatment on-site for substance use disorders, as well as coordinated care for off-site counseling to address co-occurring mental health disorders. Cazenovia has rehab centers around the state of New York, including Cazenovia Manor for men in Buffalo. Sundram was previously part of another agency, Fellowship House, Inc.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To begin the process of admission to this facility, individuals should undergo physical and psychosocial exams and provide the reports, along with an application packet that is available on the Sundram Manor website.
Core programming is structured around trauma-informed self-help meetings (such as 12-Step) in combination with individual and group counseling. Residents also participate in an array of activities that support whole-person recovery and integration into the local community.
To support self-reliance and a successful transition back into the community, residents also receive life skills training, case management, as well as on- and off-site services that support employment and transitional or permanent housing plans.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Sundram Manor employs counselors with master’s degrees or bachelor’s degrees with prior experience, as well as case managers, nurses, and a support staff. In N.Y., 98.6 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities have higher education requirements for staff. Other treatment staff members include counselors associates with Qualified Health Professional certifications.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The large 17-bed house, located in a residential neighborhood, offers semi-private rooms and recreation spaces. Meals are shared on-site in an open-design dining room. Website photographs depict a comfortable, if simply furnished, residence with a deck and backyard. Residents have access to transportation, including a nearby public bus route. Staff are on-site at all times.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date. However, the 41 reviews on the Cazenovia Facebook page, which may be managed by the organization’s staff, reveal positive views of the agency at large, which earned an average rating of 4.4 stars out of five.[1]
The majority of the ratings provided were not accompanied by written comments, and those with comments were submitted largely by staff and other community members. Although no reviews of Sundram Manor were available to date, one alum of a women’s rehab wrote: “They helped save my life on a daily basis Staff expressed pride and enjoyment in their work helping clients.”[1]
WHAT STAFF SAY
At the time of this writing, the one staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com would not recommend the program to others, due perceived atmosphere of disrespecting clients. Offering one-star ratings for most evaluated metrics, such as the experience of staff and protocol training, the staff member wrote: “Do not go here. It is absolutely the worst.”
FINANCING
The cost of treatment is covered by private sources or through state or federal funding, arranged for each individual during the intake process if necessary.
