ABOUT CORNERSTONE OF FRESH MEADOWS
Located in Queens, N.Y. and accessible by public transportation, the newly renovated Cornerstone of Fresh Meadows is a 159-bed residential facility operated by Cornerstone – an addiction treatment network that has provided substance abuse care for over 40 years. Like its sister facility in the Hudson Valley, Fresh Meadows offers therapy for adults through a medically-supervised inpatient detoxification program and a residential rehab program.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, Fresh Meadows offers 106 beds for detox clients, and 53 for those in residential rehab. Upon intake, each client is assigned to a clinician who helps develop an individualized treatment plan.
Length of stay depends on an individual’s insurance coverage, treatment needs, and addiction history. Both detox and residential rehab clients have access to 24/7 staff care, but maintain different daily schedules.
Treatment at Cornerstone is based on the disease model of addiction and aims to increase dignity and self-esteem. Residential clients attend group and individual therapy, 12-step classes, lectures and films, educational classes, activity therapies, and engage in a nutrition program. Meanwhile, detox clients focus on receiving medical care, possibly including methadone and Suboxone maintenance, while attending counseling.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s website notes that as at every Cornerstone facility, the treatment team at Fresh Meadows consists of NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC).
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
There is limited information available regarding the living arrangements and amenities at Fresh Meadows, but the five-story building was recently renovated and is wheelchair accessible. In addition, telephone usage is restricted and laptops and cellphones are not allowed.
