TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester offers a multidisciplinary treatment approach that is consistent with the 12-Step model of recovery. The residential program – divided into one unit for addiction and another for psychiatric care – is short-term, structured, and intensive. It addresses both physical and emotional symptoms through medical detox (if necessary), individual therapy, group therapy, family education, and rehabilitative activities. There is a separate geriatric psychiatric program for older adults, and one for adolescents ages 13 to 18. All patients receive thorough aftercare counseling and a referral for continuing treatment on an outpatient basis following the completion of the inpatient stay.

Outpatient programs – held at the hospital’s Port Chester Recovery Center and Maxwell Institute – have a wider variety of services. Patients can walk in or make an appointment for screening, assessment, individual or group therapy, family education, psychoeducation classes (i.e. anger management, relapse prevention), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

The EXCEL day and evening programs address budding substance abuse problems in adolescents with the help of social workers and, if necessary, probation officers while working with the adolescents’ home schools to meet their educational needs.
