ABOUT GATEWAY TO PREVENTION & RECOVERY

Gateway To Prevention & Recovery is a community-based treatment provider that offers a range of outpatient-based treatment services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. With its headquarters in Shawnee, Okla., 38 miles east of Oklahoma City, GTPR operates through four facilities located in the communities of Shawnee, Seminole, Chandler, and Stillwater. In 2016, Gateway was designated as a CCARC (Comprehensive Community Addiction Recovery Center), allowing the treatment provider to offer medication-assisted therapy (MAT) and ambulatory detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission into the program, clients undergo an initial screening and assessment to determine individual client needs. Along with medication-assisted therapy, which may include Suboxone and Vivitrol, Gateway provides a range of evidence-based treatment approaches to identify and treat contributing factors of addictive behavior. To do so, Gateway facilitates both individual and group counseling sessions.

Specialized group counseling sessions are also available that focus on co-occurring disorders commonly linked to addiction. Gateway holds group counseling sessions focused on depression, anxiety, and trauma. If necessary, Gateway provides referrals for clients who require psychiatric evaluations and medication management to diagnose and treat co-occurring mental health disorders.

Along with substance abuse, Gateway also holds group sessions on other compulsive behaviors, such as problem gambling, eating disorders, shopping addiction, and sex addiction. In addition, Gateway offers an employee assistance program (EAP) and student assistance program that address the effects of substance abuse on work or school performance. Program tracks for DUI offenders are also available.

According to the facility’s website, volunteers also regularly donate their time to provide clients with alternative treatment sessions. In the past, these group sessions have focused on nutrition, physical fitness, art therapy, job searching techniques, volunteerism, and money management. Family and marriage counseling is also offered to involve loved ones in the recovery process. In addition, loved ones are encouraged to participate in case management, assisting clinicians to form comprehensive discharge plans. To promote sustained recovery, Gateway provides specialized aftercare groups for program alumni.
