ABOUT LETTY OWINGS CENTER
Since opening in 1989, the Letty Owings Center has helped more than 1,300 families and provided support for more than 230 babies to be born drug-free, according to its website. Located in Portland,Ore. and operated by Central City Concerns, Letty Owings is a private nonprofit facility, which make up about 55 percent of all treatment centers in Oregon; it is one of the 33 (14.6 percent) of Oregon treatment centers that provides long-term, residential treatment. It serves mothers and pregnant women who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. The center coordinates with other Central City Concern (CCC) programs to secure health care, employment, and long-term housing services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Letty Owings Center’s website, when clients entere treatment, they work with a clinical team to develop an individualized plan to address physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being. Medical referrals and mental health assessments are available through the center’s network.
Among the on 20 percent of facilities that provides specialty services to pregnant or postpartum women, Letty Owings Center’s course offers group counseling and daily education groups. The focus for the program is on understanding addiction, cognitive restructuring, problem solving, relapse prevention, and parenting, while introducing the client to self-help support groups. In addition to group sessions, individual and family counseling are offered. Developing peer relationships is a high priority. Throughout their stay at the Letty Owings Center, clients live and work with role models who are living successfully in recovery.
As residents progress in recovery, they also learn essential life skills. Lessons and practice in budgeting, meal planning, cooking, and communication help mothers pursue their goal of independent living. When they have found employment, they continue attending recovery support groups. Residents’ children participate in pre-school programs, which are open to members of the Portland community from all walks of life. The Letty Owings Center is among the 24 facilities in Oregon to offer child care for the children of clients.
Aftercare is available through outpatient counseling and alumni support groups.

The facility’s website references an on-site registered nurse, and part-time support staff who are available collectively 24 hours a day.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The Letty Owings Center is licensed for 56 beds. Each resident stays in a room with her children and a program video shows warm and individualized spaces. Residents make the rooms their own through decorating and arranging.
The facility’s website video also emphasizes structure and stability. While mothers participate in therapy and outside jobs, babies stay in an on-site nursery. Group meeting rooms are simple yet comfortably furnished. Images include activities with community members, including craft days with a local church and sessions featuring alumni who have returned to share their recovery stories and support.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com to date provided a positive review and commentary. They gave five out of five stars when asked if they would recommend Letty Owings Center and family participation. They also gave four stars for counseling options, the staff’s level of training and experience, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders.
“This center will help you achieve your goals and become a better person for your self and your family,” they wrote.
To date, the 22 people to leave reviews on Letty Owings Center’s Facebook page, which it has the ability to manage, gave an average of five out of five stars and positive commentary. Individuals praised the treatment team and caring staff. “Saved my life & gave my girls their Mommy back. Without LOC I’d be dead or back in prison. The two people to leave Google Reviews for the center gave conflicting reviews. One gave five out of five stars and called it an “amazing place,” while the other gave one star and called the staff horrible. [2]

WHAT STAFF SAY
The one staff member surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave a mostly positive reviews, and three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness.
“I think the treatment is pretty effective,” the staffer wrote. “The program is for women and children, reuniting moms with their children who are in foster care or unborn. A lot of parenting skills are emphasized and a lot of families are reunited.”

The facility’s website indicates that it receives grants and donations to support its work. There is no indication of insurance coverage or self payment at the time of this writing.
