ABOUT GAUDENZIA
Gaudenzia operates 151 drug and alcohol treatment programs in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. The organization’s corporate headquarters are located in Norristown, which is 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. CiteHealth and HealthGrove provide information that Gaudenzia’s facilities in Norristown offer outpatient care, and a pamphlet published by Montgomery County states that residential services are also available in Norristown.
Gaudenzia also partners with the Montgomery County Drug and Alcohol Administrative Office to provide case coordination services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Gaudenzia’s programs are based on the therapeutic community (TC) model, which emphasizes healing through peer support and professional guidance. The treatment approach centers around building clients’ behavioral tools and social skills to achieve lasting sobriety.
Gaudenzia offers short-term, intermediate, and long-term residential programs across its 151 facilities, along with various intensities of outpatient care such as partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), and general outpatient care. The Montgomery County Drug and Alcohol Information and Advocacy Service indicates that treatment includes standard individual, group, and family therapy.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Gaudenzia provides skills-development courses for its staff to ensure they remain well-trained and up-to-date. More information about the treatment staff is not currently available.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Information about the living arrangements and related offerings of the facility is not currently provided. However, Best-rehabs.com surveyed four individuals who gave the center an average rating of 1.75 stars for accommodations.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Among the four reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com, one was mostly positive and three were negative. One positive reviewer named Kristal stated, “I learned a lot being that this was my first treatment facility. It changed my body, mind, and behaviors.” However, she also mentioned a lack of individual counseling and aftercare planning.
The negative reviews described the facility as uncomfortable. One reviewer named Jen said, “The place was like a prison, … very poorly structured classes.” Another reviewer named D.D. complained of roaches and mistreatment of clients at Gaudenzia.
Secondary review sites yielded mixed feedback at the time of this writing: a one-star, a three-star, and a five-star rating, spread between Google and CiteHealth. The single positive reviewer did not provide any commentary. An anonymous three-star reviewer on CiteHealth wrote, “Place, program, and employees are a joke. They are there for the money and not your health. Stay away.” The one-star reviewer complained of rudeness during an assessment.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Staff reviews on secondary sites provided mixed feedback at the time of this writing. On Indeed.com, Gaudenzia had an average rating of 3.2 stars based on 32 reviews, while on Glassdoor, it had an average rating of 2.7 stars based on 36 reviews. It’s important to note that these reviews represent the organization as a whole, not specifically the Norristown location. Staff members often spoke positively about their work with clients but criticized management and the work environment, which they believed hindered their ability to provide the best care. “Pros: Loved helping individuals who struggled with drugs and alcohol and gave peer to peer feedback. Enjoyed sharing my experience, strength, and hope with clients. Cons: No consistency at all and management is also very inconsistent … Work you like a slave,” wrote one anonymous former employee on Glassdoor.
FINANCING
According to a pamphlet published by the facility in 2016, Gaudenzia accepts private insurance and Medicaid.
