Caritas Eastman offers supportive treatment to women at high risk, especially those who’ve experienced trauma and who are homeless and/or in the criminal justice system. The emphasis is on coaching and teaching life skills to help clients re-integrate into society as successful and sober individuals.

ABOUT GATEWAY’S EASTMAN HOUSE

Located in Central Pawtucket, R.I., near Providence, Gateway Healthcare’s Eastman House provides residential treatment for women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental conditions. The facility is one of only 12 non-hospital residential facilities in Rhode Island.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, Eastman House places an emphasis on group and individual counseling to address any underlying caused that may contribute to addictive behavior. One of the two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date indicated that she received group counseling twice per day, seven days per week.

Specific groups include trauma, spirituality, women’s assertiveness issues, and peer-led groups. Relapse prevention and psychoeducation classes are also integrated into programming. The facility also offers support for co-occurring mental conditions, which may include psychiatric evaluations, disorder-specific group counseling, and medication management or referrals.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Eastman House employs a team of alcohol and drug counselors. The sole alum polled by Best-rehabs.com on the matter gave two out of five stars for the level of staff training, as well as three stars for the level of staff support.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Photographs on the facility’s website indicate that Eastman House is located in an area with little outdoor space, across from a shopping plaza. The sole alum polled by Best-rehabs.com on the matter gave the quality of accommodations and amenities a three out of five star-rating, though offered five stars for the facility’s cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date offered mixed opinions of the facility., K.R. left negative feedback about Gateway’s Eastman House, citing argumentative, quick-tempered, and incompetent staff. She offered just one out of five stars for the center’s inclusion of holistic treatment methods, and just two stars for metrics such as the staff’s level of training and experience, respect shown toward clients, and the staff’s flexibility. Positive qualities of her treatment, however, were the visitor policy, meals and nutrition, and cleanliness.

Alum Jen disagreed, offering a perfect five-star rating for the overall effectiveness of treatment. Reporting sustained sobriety, alum Jen wrote: “I found staff to be fully educated in the substance abuse area and fully cooperative…”

Reviews from third-party sites repeated complaints about staff, adding concerns about cleanliness and treatment effectiveness. On CiteHealth, the facility has received an average rating of one out of five stars based on four reviews at the time of this writing.[1] One anonymous reviewer wrote in a representative review: “Staff was extremely petty and immature. Had zero control over patients and was a mess. Don’t bother coming here.” Another simply put: “Horrible. No treatment whatsoever.”

According to Healthgrove, Eastman House accepts Medicaid and Medicare as well as public and private health care plans.

I entered Eastman house March 3rd 2011 completed the program June 3rd 2011 I am still clean and sober as of this date I found this treatment center to give me the foundation of safety education on substance abuse one on one counseling transportation to and from daily Na and AA meetings I found staff to be fully educated in the substance abuse area and fully cooperative for mine needs not only for my inpatient residence but for my aftercare therapy in which they offered they also provided Ways and Means for insurance snap insurance and things that I would need to step out back into the world I give this program a five star for the simple fact that I am still clean and sober and Eastman house Pawtucket Avenue is where I started my new life
Counselors got very defensive, argued, screamed and disrespected clients. Only had two counselors who actually knew what they were doing, others were incompetent.
