Memphis Recovery Centers (MRC) has provided professional counseling for youth and adults in a caring and confidential atmosphere across the Mid-South for more than 45 years. We have since stayed true to our mission… to return the individual to an acceptable level of spiritual, physical, social and occupational functioning, and to help each person and his/her family to begin a lifelong process of recovery.
ABOUT MEMPHIS RECOVERY CENTERS
Memphis Recovery Centers (MRC) provides evidence-based, residential treatment for adolescents ages 13 to 17 who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. The nonprofit agency also offers residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs for adults. All adult programs are gender-specific and the facility emphasizes a nonjudgmental, individualized, and trauma-informed approach to treatment. Detox services are not offered on-site; however, the facility will provide referrals to a nearby facility. MRC began operations in 1970.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Residential treatment programs vary in length according to the client’s needs, but tend to last between 30 and 45 days for adults and a minimum of three months for adolescents. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a central treatment modality, along with 12-step concepts.
Group therapy and educational sessions incorporate nutrition, wellness, music, and art, as part of a holistic approach to recovery. MRC staff also collaborate with clients’ existing physicians and psychiatrists to assist with dual diagnosis treatment and incorporate spirituality in individual counseling. Weekly family therapy sessions, life skills training, and anger management counseling are also provided. Up to six months of aftercare is available to clients who have completed a full program.
On-site schooling is provided for adolescent clients.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s treatment team includes a doctor board certified in addiction medicine and several master’s level counselors who are licensed or certified to treatment drug and alcohol addiction. MRC maintains a one-to-four staff-to-client ratio.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Memphis Recovery Center has 65 beds total, of which 20 are designated for youth and set in two historic Memphis homes. Smoking is permitted on-site, but cell phones are not.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
To date, Best-rehabs.com has received survey responses from just one alum, who recommended the program based on the effectiveness of treatment – with a perfect rating of five stars – and accommodations.
J.D. awarded five-star ratings for general accommodations, meals, and nutrition; four for the facility’s cleanliness and upkeep; and three for exercise and leisure activities. She highlighted the sensitivity and helpfulness with which she was treated, although awarding just three stars apiece for family participation and holistic treatment offerings.
Reviewers on Google and the facility’s official Facebook page, which staff members may monitor, were even more consistently favorable. Alum Derek gave a five-star rating on Google, characterizing his treatment experience as life-saving, resulting in ongoing sobriety. Janie’s five-star review was more descriptive of the program’s “small intensely personal group setting that includes family issues as a component of healing.”
Four Facebook reviewers contributed to an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars. LeAnne concurred that the treatment was life-saving, giving her the necessary tools for “a happy and sober life!” Another reviewer praised the staff.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Two loved ones also shared favorable reviews with Best-rehabs.com. Both indicated that treatment was effective, with four- and five-star ratings. Each also awarded five stars for opportunities for family participation. In addition, the two indicated that MRC’s pricing was fair.
On Yellowpages.com, two more loved ones reported successful treatment and praise for the facility’s care for family members. “You can tell that the staff at MRC really care about everyone that comes through the doors and have each person’s best interest in mind,” M.K.M. wrote.
WHAT STAFF SAY
Staff reviews are mixed. One anonymous staffer polled by Best-rehabs.com would not recommend Memphis Recovery Centers. They gave two-star ratings for the accommodations, counseling options, and ability of the facility to treat co-occurring disorders, describing treatment as repetitive and staff members as under-trained. Nevertheless, they also wrote that “Staff are available to listen.” One area of agreement with other reviewers was in family programming, for which they awarded four stars.
On Indeed, the facility has an average rating of 3.9 out of five, based on eight reviews. Employees writing on Indeed praised their coworkers and depicted a busy, sometimes stressful environment.
FINANCING
Most insurance plans are accepted either in-network or out, according to the facility’s website, and a sliding fee scale is applied for eligible private-pay clients. MRC prioritizes working with clients to help them access affordable treatment.
