ABOUT MID-COAST FAMILY SERVICES INC
Mid-Coast Family Services Inc (MCFS) is a nonprofit agency serving several South Texas counties out of Victoria. The organization offers an array of social services to communities struggling with homelessness, family violence, and substance use disorders. Programming for adults is designed for DWI offenders, while youth have access to prevention, education, and brief intervention treatment. MCFS also operates a youth camp and homework center, women’s crisis center, and housing programs for the homeless.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Addiction programming at Mid-Coast Family Services is primarily based in education and evaluation. The facility provides referrals for adults and youth who need more intensive treatment.
The center’s 15-week DWI offender program begins with a scheduled assessment, followed by weekly two- or three-hour group sessions. Clients also participate in two individual counseling sessions during the course.The program is designed to help clients recognize drinking patterns and learn responsible decision-making skills. MCFS also provides certified Department of Transportation (DOT) Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluations and recommendations for individuals in transportation and safety industries.
Teens in Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, and Victoria Counties have access to MCFS services through various agency collaborations with school systems, churches, and other social institutions. A 12-session, curriculum-based support group for adolescents involves drug and alcohol use screenings, education, and access to individual counseling.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff; however the single individual polled by Best-rehabs.com to date granted Mid-Coast Family Services three out of five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The one alum polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing would not recommend Mid-Coast Family Services. The former client identified consistency as a strength, but ultimately concluded that the program was not effective. They rated all but one of 15 metrics measured two or three stars, awarding four for the facility’s cleanliness and upkeep. Options in counseling received two stars and affordability was rated three.
By contrast, feedback elsewhere on the internet was nearly universally positive. MCFS had three ratings on Google, of four, five, and one out of five stars. Commentary highlighted the facility’s commitment and effort to serve clients.[1] About two-dozen reviews on the facility’s official Facebook page (which its staff can monitor) referenced homeless services most frequently, tending to characterize the staff as hard-working. In a representative review, one alum wrote that MCFS staff were “the best people to deal with.”[2]
FINANCING
Financial data on the Mid-Coast Family Services Inc website indicates that the DWI program fee is approximately $350. Youth prevention services are funded by the state of Texas and the facility is a United Way affiliate.
