The Arbor- Behavioral Health Care Georgetown Texas

The Arbor is a 12-step based Alcohol and Substance Use Disorder program that was created by a team of addiction professionals with over 95 years of experience in the field of chemical dependency. The Arbor Treatment Program is designed as a 15-month program of support and comprised of two core phases: a 90-day residential treatment program followed up with a 12- month aftercare support program.

ABOUT THE ARBOR – BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE

The Arbor, a Texas-based behavioral healthcare provider, provides a continuum of treatment options for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. A variety of services, including residential treatment, outpatient care, and sober living accommodations, are available through the organization’s four locations. However, the center based in Georgetown, Texas, known as the Arbor Ranch, specializes in providing upscale, gender-specific residential treatment.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients undergo assessments and are assigned a personalized care team, whom they meet individually once a week. Based on assessment findings, staff recommend a customized treatment plan that incorporates 12-step principles, individual, group, and family counseling, as well as a range of experiential therapies.

Staff utilize a variety of treatment modalities, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), equine therapy, and art therapy. Clients also spend time in psycho-educational workshops and participate in yoga classes and guided meditation. Fitness activities and nutritional counseling, as well as therapeutic massage, are also available.

Most clients remain on-site for 90 days before being discharged, though options for extended treatment are available. The Arbor prioritizes continuing care planning, so clients leave with a comprehensive plan for relapse prevention that may include outpatient care or sober living support, available through other Arbor programs.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the center’s website, a medical director heads the team of master’s-level therapists, licensed social workers, psychiatrists, recovery manager and coaches, primary therapist, an equine specialist, and other wellness professionals.

Lounge areas are well furnished. Men and women sleep in separate, gender-specific quarters and share bedrooms with one other client. Clients are responsible for basic chores and the upkeep of their bedrooms. Smoking and tobacco use are permitted in designated areas.

  • I was 65 when I entered the Arbor in 2013. They were not prepared to treat an older client with the younger ones, which they have probably corrected by now. At any rate, I have had psychiatric treatment ever since, ptsd. The Arbor is just wrong. Ninety days, no books, no music, no tv, no newspapers , contact with loved ones once a week for 10 minutes with a guard by your side, "guards" almost numbering the amount of clients, no freedom of movement at all, total silence required in vans while group-traveling. SO much more repressiveness. My psychiatrist asked whether it was prison instead of a rehab. It seems oriented to punish rather than to inspire or help. One leaves feeling worse about oneself. In 12 weeks I had personal, strictly enforced one-hour contact with my counselor maybe 7 times?? I spent 50 thousand dollars of my own money--they did not accept my insurance--for nothing. I know that of the 12 or so who were there initially with me, at least 8 relapsed immediately, even in the sober living house, where they were even bringing in alcohol . I don't understand the high success rate the institution brags about. I went to another rehab institution in Washington 2 years later, spent 25 thousand more--and came out whole, healthy. They allowed us our personal freedom, integrity, books to read at down times, cell phones, tv in each room, etc. In other words, I was a human being being treated by other human beings. I wish this could be a more positive review, but there is nothing there to be positive about. The few people who tried to make our experience more positive were removed. Whoever wrote the review stating that the Arbor has individual programs for individuals obviously never was a client there. I invite anyone who wants to contact me from the Arbor to discuss the wrongness of their approach to do so. You have my daughter's number, and she can put you in touch with me up here in North Pole, Alaska. But in keeping with the Arbor's "personality", I don't think this review will be published. It will be interesting to see--but they are, first and foremost, a money-making venture.

  • My 19 year old son went to the Arbor, and I felt his treatment and the family program were better than any I'd found in the area. But be aware, when sending a loved one, especially a young adult, with dual diagnosis, I was told he would receive EMDR therapy while inpatient. He did not. I was then told he would have the same therapist throughout the continuum of care, He did not. When I was told not to contact my son, I agreed, with the caveat they would be checking on him every 30 minutes. They did not. He is, thank God, still sober today, but he walked away from extended care, while supposedly under watch, and they did not know or inform me until 12 1/2 hours after he left. My son has epilepsy and a heart condition. I trusted. I should never have stopped talking to my son. I am very grateful for the inpatient care he received, but the extended care was not worth the $5,000 a month I paid for it. While in iop, the patients do not have enough to occupy them each day, and I could have had someone with him every minute, those months, and had him in an iop, for the same money. I highly recommend the inpatient, but strongly recommend against looking to extended care or their continuum after, simply because they did not deliver what they told me they would.

  • I was fortunate enough to seek treatment at The Arbor in early 2016. The accommodations were very comfortable, far better than I expected for drug rehab. I loved being on a ranch and all the amenities made the hard work easier for me. I loved the staff and was able to move on to extended care and sober living within their org as they offer it all. I think that really helped me. I had tried outpatient treatment elsewhere a year earlier and have failed. I'm now nearly a year sober. Thank God!

  • I feel blessed to have attended treatment at The Arbor. It was a vigorous program that allowed me the jump start I need into the 12 steps. I also was able to work through the wreckage of my past using various therapeutic modalities.

  • The Arbor is a beautiful facility and seems -on the phone and on their website - to be the best place for your loved one. Once you arrive and your loved one is in their care, it is a different story. They never told us that there was no smoking allowed or that she would not be able to have a Coke to drink. They knew she was using a walker because she walked in with one, but decided after the fact that their grounds were "not suited" for someone with a walker. They failed to mention that there was an additional $500 deposit on top of the $30,000 fee. No one never knew what the other was doing. I would call to check on her and one person would tell me "oh, she's been doing great" and the same day the next person would say that she was not participating in group. ...Like I mentioned previously, they decided that she was too great a "risk", so they wanted to discharge her yet took forever (over 5 days) to do it. It just seemed at that point that they wanted her money. I do not recommend this place at all to anyone. It's basically a 12 Step program in a nice location. Your loved one would be better off elsewhere.
