Treatment & Assessment

Upon admission, clients undergo an initial psychiatric and substance abuse assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. The facility also handles 24/7 crisis interventions. University Behavioral Health of Denton uses a combination of counseling and evidence-based treatment methods to addresses addiction behaviors. Along with 12-step meetings, clients participate in group counseling, engage in therapeutic activities, and attend educational sessions on addiction and relapse prevention. Clients are enrolled in the appropriate care programs based on their qualifications and their specific treatment needs.

The adult treatment program provides substance abuse and behavioral health services to clients that are 18-years-old or older. The program uses individual and group counseling, detox (if needed), and family support counseling to change cognitive behaviors. Treatment focuses on breaking chemical dependence and establishing sober living habits.

UBH of Denton treats a range of mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders, including depression, anxiety, compulsive disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, and issues related to sexual trauma. Like substance abuse treatments, the program for mental illness offers group counseling and therapeutic activities. UBH also provides ongoing medication management.

Specialized programs are available for children, adolescent (7 to 13), veteran, senior and women clients. The women only program offers specialized, topic-relevant support groups on postpartum depression, trauma, eating disorders, and loss of pregnancy. The veteran and military program is designed to support military serviceman that need assistance in breaking chemical dependence, while addressing PTSD and other stress-related concerns. The child, adolescent, and senior programs offer similar services as the adult programs, but tailored to specific age groups.

Strengths: Variety of situations they can address, out patient options and follow up, whole family interaction. Weaknesses: Sometimes groups are too broadly inclusive but it seems to end up being a good thing. It's hard to say because sometimes the very thing the client complains about is what they needed! They were good to adjust treatment when funds grew short and not just drop their patient.

  • Strengths: Takes insurance. Weaknesses: Inconvenient/limited visiting hours. This was for my daughter. It is one of the few choices we have in this area, and it was not the best and not the worst place.
