TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Sentara Behavioral Health’s University Blvd. location is a group psychiatric practice that provides evaluation and treatment for psychiatric and addictive disorders. This location requires appointments in order for clients to be seen. At the time of this writing, the facility indicates that appointments are available Monday-Friday during business hours. The behavioral health practice treats individuals struggling with a variety of mental health concerns including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, eating disorders, substance abuse, and more.
Sentara Behavioral Health also offers an outpatient partial hospitalization program (PHP) designed to help shorten hospital stays or provide interventions that will help avoid hospitalization. PHP services occur for five days per week, up to six hours per day and allows clients to go home in the evening after receiving treatment during the day. Treatment includes individual, group, and family therapy along with stress management and education. PHP is for adults ages 18 and older. In order to be admitted to the PHP, clients must have a referral from a hospital, physician, family, friends, employee assistance program, a mental health provider, or other healthcare provider. Clients may also refer themselves. The length of the program depends on each client’s individual needs and is determined by the client, physician, and staff.
Other Behavioral Health services offered by Sentara include: inpatient care, 24-hour crisis care, addiction services, bereavement services, child and adolescent services, and counseling services.

According to the facility’s website, the treatment team includes board certified psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, licensed clinical psychologists, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical nurse specialists, a bereavement specialist, registered dietitians, pharmacists, art therapists, recreational therapists and other specialists.

The Inpatient Behavioral Health unit at Sentara features 24-hour nursing care, pet therapy, and recreational therapy. There are no additional details provided by the facility regarding its accommodations & amenities.

FINANCING
The cost of treatment at the facility is not published and varies based on the services received. One alum polled by Best-rehabs.com indicated that a weakness of the facility was the cost. Sentara’s website indicates that they will bill all types of insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. However, if a co-pay is owed, it must be paid at the time of the outpatient visit. Clients who do not have insurance may receive a 20 percent discount for office visit charges if they are paid in full at the time of the visit.
