The Salvation Army Virginia Beach’s Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), located in Virginia Beach, Va., offers treatment to adult men struggling with substance abuse. It is unclear if this program is offered as residential or outpatient. The Salvation Army is one of the country’s largest providers of addiction services. Programs at the Salvation Army offer emotional, spiritual, and social assistance to individuals struggling with a drug and alcohol addiction. According to the Salvation Army’s mission statement, they are a Christian faith-based organization whose mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ while meeting human needs without discrimination. The Virginia Beach location has been meeting the needs of the community since 1905.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

There is little information available regarding the treatment and assessment methods of the addiction recovery program at Salvation Army Virginia Beach ARC. The facility’s website does indicate that the program is specialized for men to address a variety of issues related to addiction. The program offers training in job skills, individual and group counseling, along with other tools (not specified) to help clients rebuild positive lifestyles.

The Virginia Beach Salvation Army also offers other services to the community they serve. Emergency disaster services are offered on-site of local disasters and includes food, shelter, and spiritual and personal counseling. Homeless services are offered as an emergency shelter and transitional housing for men at the HOPE Center for Men in Norfolk. An additional homeless shelter is available to homeless women and children through the facility’s H.O.P.E. Village. The Salvation Army’s Social Services office provides rent assistance, utility assistance, food supplements, and more for families and individuals in need. Finally, the facility’s Back to School program partners with others in the community to provide school supplies for at-risk and in-need children of the community.

The loved one, C.R., strongly agreed that she would recommend the facility and gave five out of five stars each for treatment effectiveness, accommodations & amenities, meals & nutrition. The loved one strongly agreed that the facility was clean and well maintained and that the facility was adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems in addition to substance use disorders but was neutral when asked if there were many counseling options to choose from depending on the client’s preference. C.R. also indicated that family and loved ones were not able to participate in treatment through facility programming. She felt that a strength of the facility was that it is a Christian based program and did not identify any weaknesses. The loved one also added commentary and wrote, “I was able to attend Church at the facility with my loved one. I feel that this program ran a tight ship, but the people that needs to be rehabilitated needs to be more sincere in getting the needed help. The facility can only do so much.”

On the facility’s Google page, there is an overall rating of four out of five stars based on 22 total reviews.[1] However, those who left comments were all reviewing the Salvation Army’s thrift store and none specifically mentioned the Adult Recovery Center.
