ABOUT HORIZON BEHAVIORAL HEALTH – HORIZON WELLNESS CENTER
Horizon Behavioral Health is a Virginia-based treatment provider, offering a range of services for individuals struggling with chemical dependency, psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring concerns. Located in Lynchburg, Va., Horizon Wellness Center is one of 13 facilities operated by the Horizon Behavioral Health and provides short-term inpatient and outpatient-based levels of care. If necessary, Horizon Wellness Center also provides on-site medical detoxification services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients participate in a comprehensive mental health and substance abuse diagnostic evaluation, helping clinicians to determine an appropriate level of treatment and form an individualized treatment plan. If a client requires detoxification and/or psychiatric stabilization, they may be referred to the wellness center’s residential program. The residential program lasts no longer than 15 days. Through medical detoxification, pharmacological intervention (if necessary), and therapeutic programming, the goal of the residential program is to quickly stabilize the client and refer them to a less-intensive level of care.
During residential treatment, clients participate in a highly-structured schedule of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. As the facility’s primary treatment approach, specialized counseling sessions address a range of topics relevant to clientele, including trauma, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and other issues related to behavioral and mental health. Clients may also attend psychosocial educational classes on coping skills, relapse prevention, and mindfulness training.
For individuals struggling with chemical dependency, medication-assisted therapy (MAT), such as Suboxone and Vivitrol, may be utilized to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal and help curb cravings. Dually diagnoses individuals and clients with a primary psychiatric disorder receive ongoing psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Once a client is stable, they may be encouraged to utilize the wellness center’s outpatient-based services to promote sustained recovery. On an outpatient basis, Horizon Wellness Center of Lynchburg facilitates group, individual, and family counseling sessions. Along with specialized mental health and substance abuse groups, the wellness center offers a 12-week outpatient program, Project Link, for pregnant and postpartum women. In addition, Horizon Wellness Center provides comprehensive case management for clientele, which may include referrals to community-based resources, sober and supportive housing, vocational training, and longer-term programs.
Horizon Wellness Center’s treatment staff is comprised of physicians experienced in addiction medicine, psychiatrists, licensed mental health and substance abuse counselors, psychiatric nurses, and case managers.
